Remaining sane in an increasingly insane world, By Owei Lakemfa

It appears the re-opening of the Strait of Hormuz, through which one-fifth of world oil passed before the US–Iran war, was one of the most urgent tasks of humanity. The United States has, for six months, been unable to re-open this vital artery, which handled 100–140 commercial ships daily. Then, like magic, Oman and Iran […]

EPL: ‘I’ve been saying for weeks’ – Rio Ferdinand reacts to Man United’s 2-0 defeat to Hull

Former Manchester United defender Rio Ferdinand has reacted after the Red Devils’ 2-0 defeat to Hull City.
The Red Devils conceded two goals in the first half during their opening Premier League match at the MKM Stadium.
Hull City marked their return to the Premier League after a nine-year absence with a memorable performance, as defender Semi Ajayi opened the scoring in the 17th minute, capitalizing on a rebound after Oli McBurnie’s shot was deflected onto the post by Senne Lammens.
In the 38th minute, club-record signing Nobel Mendy extended Hull City’s lead by heading in from Regan Slater’s free-kick.
Following Manchester United’s two-goal deficit, club legend Rio Ferdinand took to social media to share his reaction.
Ferdinand emphasized the challenges of facing newly promoted teams away from home in the opening match of the season. He also pointed out the need for the Red Devils to improve their defense against crosses.
He posted on X, “Not the 45 minutes we wanted… I have been saying for weeks, and Carra mentioned it yesterday, that facing a newly promoted team away from home is not ideal. The stadium was electric, and they were ready for the fight… Hull denied United any space, were solid defensively, and their crossing was exceptional. We must DEFEND crosses better!!!”
Michael Carrick’s team entered the match with high confidence after a strong finish to the 2025-26 season. They had an impressive second half of the season following Carrick’s appointment, ultimately finishing in third place.
Manchester United dominated possession with 72% and took 21 shots, achieving 40 touches in the opposition’s box.

EPL: David de Gea sends message to Man United after 2-0 defeat to Hull City

Former Manchester United goalkeeper David de Gea has sent a message to the club following their defeat to Hull City in the Premier League on Saturday.
The Red Devils suffered a 2-0 loss in their first match of the 2026/27 Premier League season.
De Gea took to X to share a message, emphasizing that ‘it is a marathon and not a sprint’ after the first defeat of the season.
He expressed confidence in Manchester United’s potential for success this season, stating, “It’s not how it starts, it’s how it ends.”
In the meantime, Michael Carrick expressed his frustration regarding the two goals conceded. He acknowledged the need to refocus on set-pieces, remarking:
“Conceding two goals is frustrating. Indeed, set-plays – we’ve been quite effective at them over time, and they determined the outcome of the game today. Clearly, there are areas for improvement.
“That’s one of them today, which is evident to mention, but overall, we’ve performed well, so one game does not alter the entire trajectory of our efforts. We recognize that, yet we must remain conscious of what we need to enhance.”
Carrick further noted that the team is already anticipating the next match, asserting that they cannot allow the loss to impact their mindset as they progress through the season. He emphasized the importance of taking it week by week.
Semi Ajayi and Nobel Mendy netted the goals.
