Letting Di’ja go was most difficult decision of my career – Don Jazzy

Record producer and music executive, Michael Collins Ajereh, popularly known as Don Jazzy, has revealed that letting former Mavin artist, Di’ja, go was one of the most difficult decisions of his career.

Speaking in a recent episode of the Crea8torium podcast, Jazzy recalled that the moment was tense, and Di’ja also noticed that he was uncomfortable during the announcement.

He explained that it was emotional because he sees every one of his artists as his child.

“One of the most difficult decisions of my career was when I had to let Di’ja go. That was difficult, and I don’t think I will let any artist go again by myself. Tega and Rima handle that now if they need somebody to leave the label.

“Everybody on my record label is like my child. So, that was hard for both of us. And she [Di’ja] knew that it was hard for me. She even questioned the guys in the room why they had to involve me in that. All of us started crying. It was hard,” he recalled.

Di’ja signed a record deal with Don Jazzy’s Mavin Records on 14 February 2014. Between 2014 and 2017, she released multiple singles and as well as an EP under Mavin Records.

In 2023, Dija clarified that she never formally left Mavin Records, but “life happened.”

Ego, competition destroying collaborations among Nigerian artists – Joeboy

Afrobeats singer Joeboy has said ego is affecting how Nigerian artists collaborate.

Speaking in a recent interview with Cool FM Lagos alongside his colleague, Wizkid Chan, Joeboy claimed that some artists approach collaboration with a competitive mindset, seeking to outshine their collaborators.

Joeboy said he prefers to collaborate with artists with whom he has cordial relationships to prevent potential conflict of interest.

“It is easier for me to collaborate with artists that I am cool with or friends with. Because there will be no ego or inner competition. Personally, if I feature you, I expect you to outshine me in the song. That is why I featured you. So, I don’t get the competition,” he said.

On his part, Wizard Chan said, “My problem with collaboration is just ego. I would never interfere when you’re recording; you just also do the same. Some artists will ask for a feature and want to tell you how to do your job. That is wrong. Let me do my thing.

“The reason I would feature anybody is because I cannot do what they are doing. And I can not even tell them to sound like me or do my style. The aim of collaboration is to bring a different aspect to the song. And it is not a competition. But some artists would go as far as changing their verses when they hear their collaborator’s own and it sounds better than their’s. It is not supposed to be a competition,” he added.

BBNaija11: ‘I do not have powers to get you into Big Brother – Whitemoney to applicants

Former Big Brother Naija Shine Ya Eye winner, Whitemoney has appealed to intending housemates of the reality show to stop asking him for assistance on how to go to the show.

Whitemoney said many have reached out to him asking him to influence their admissions ahead of the eleventh edition of the show.

Speaking in a video broadcast, Whitemoney urged the intending housemates to follow due process rather than seeking to cut corners.

He said he lacks the power to influence anyone’s entry into the reality show.

“My DM is filled up with messages from people asking me to influence their entries into BBNaija. Please, I do not have the power to put you into Big Brother house. Stop sending messages. Every year when the programme is approaching, I keep getting messages. This year’s own is too much.

“I understand that the economy is hard and everyone wants to be famous by going to the Big Brother show. But please, go and audition. Follow the due process. I auditioned 4 times before I was picked. Keep auditioning even if they reject you. And don’t fall victim of scam by giving anyone money to give a BBNaija slot. Be wise about it,” he said.
