EPL: They’ve an excellent manager – Walcott names team to challenge Arsenal for title

Former Arsenal star, Theo Walcott, has named Liverpool as the team to challenge Arsenal for the Premier League title this season.

Providing his prediction for BBC Sport, Walcott said that the Reds have an excellent manager in Andoni Iraola.

He noted that Iraola could get both Alexander Isak and Florian Wirtz up and running in the new season.

“Liverpool are probably the hardest team to call. Iraola is an excellent manager, and if Alexander Isak and Florian Wirtz have big seasons,” Walcott said.

“They could absolutely push Arsenal for the title,” he said.

Arsenal won the Premier League last season while Liverpool finished in fifth place.

Transfer: Arteta reveals why some players must leave Arsenal

Arsenal manager, Mikel Arteta, has admitted some players have to leave to be valued.

Arteta was speaking to the media on Thursday ahead of their Premier League opening game against Coventry City at the Emirates.

He insisted that Myles Lewis-Skelly will definitely be at the club beyond this season.

Arteta was also asked if Arsenal need to have some brutal conversations about letting players go.

The likes of Gabriel Martinelli, Gabriel Jesus and Ethan Nwaneri have been linked with moves away from the club.

“It’s a really, really tough moment. We need to face that reality,” Arteta said.

“But you have to face it with a real honesty and transparency. When you’re on the other side, it’s exactly what you need.

“You might not like what you’ve been told, but if it’s truthful, if it’s the reality and honest and make you make better decisions and have more clarity for the next step in your career, you have to do that. These are always difficult conversations. But they need to be done.

“Without talking any specifics, it is something we are working on with every individual. I want to have the squad as big as possible because we know what we’re fighting for, we learn again from the past. Especially last year when we had injuries in two or three areas of the pitch.

“The deeper squad we have, the better. But the players have to feel valued and feel important.”

Transfer: Find a new club – Mourinho tells Real Madrid player

Real Madrid manager, Jose Mourinho, has told Raul Asencio to find a new club ahead of the new season.

According to AS editor, Jose Felix Diaz, Mourinho met with the defender and informed him that he will not get playing time under him.

Asencio’s agent, Jorge Mendes, is now trying to find a new club for the 23-year-old.

Despite Madrid also being open to his departure, there has been no concrete offer on the table so far.

The situation is even more complicated because of Asencio’s current thigh injury.

His fitness issue has slowed down any immediate transfer movements, leaving both Real Madrid and Asencio’s agents waiting for the right opportunity to emerge.
