FRSC diverts traffic as damaged oye road triggers gridlock

The Federal Road Safety Corps, FRSC, Ekiti State Sector Command, has announced a traffic diversion on the Kabba–Oye–Efon Alaaye Highway following damage to a portion of the road around Oye town, which has resulted in heavy traffic build-up and prolonged delays along the corridor.
The development has further worsened the traffic situation around the Oye–Ilupeju Ekiti axis, where motorists and commuters have recently experienced serious gridlock due to the deplorable condition of sections of the road.
In a traffic advisory signed by the Sector Commander, FRSC RS8.2 Ekiti Sector Command, CC Sanya Adeoye, the Corps said the damaged portion of the highway had made movement difficult and caused significant traffic congestion.
The FRSC advised motorists travelling from Kabba through Oye–Ifaki Road to make use of alternative routes to avoid further delays.
Motorists travelling from Abuja towards Ibadan and Lagos were also advised to pass through Okene to avoid the traffic hold-up occasioned by the damaged section of the Kabba–Oye–Efon Alaaye Road.
Other road users were advised to consider the Kabba–Ikare–Owo–Akure route as an alternative.
The Corps urged motorists to cooperate with traffic personnel deployed at diversion points, obey traffic regulations, drive cautiously and exercise patience while the situation persists.
The latest development comes amid growing concerns over the poor condition of the Oye–Ilupeju–Itapa–Osin road corridor, which has continued to cause hardship for commuters, commercial drivers and residents who depend on the route for their daily activities.
The FRSC said relevant authorities had been notified of the damaged portion of the highway and that urgent repairs were expected to be carried out.
Motorists and residents along the affected corridor have consequently renewed calls for prompt intervention by the relevant government authorities to rehabilitate the road and prevent the recurring gridlock from escalating.
