Veteran Nollywood actress Omotola Jalade Ekeinde has opened up about the ban imposed on her and several top actors by movie marketers back in 2005.

In an interview with Yanga FM Nigeria, Omotola described the episode as a turning point in her career, one that reshaped her outlook on life and work.

She explained that the ban affected eight of Nollywood’s biggest stars at the time, including Genevieve Nnaji, Ramsey Nouah, Jim Iyke, Stella Damasus, Richard Mofe-Damijo, Nkem Owoh, and one other actor.

The restriction barred them from working with certain film marketers, sharply limiting their involvement in movie projects during that period.

According to Omotola, the marketers claimed the actors were a negative influence on the industry.

She explained, “They banned some of us at that time. Marketers said we too get Walahi because we dey try better the industry then, and that our wahala too much—that we are a bad influence on the industry because we dey push for standards.”

However, she insisted the real issue was their push for higher standards, professionalism, and better quality in filmmaking, efforts that reportedly clashed with the interests of those controlling production and distribution.

While some actors were reinstated after about a year, Omotola’s ban lasted longer.

She said her extended exclusion was due to her decision not to attend a reconciliation meeting organized by the marketers, a choice that worsened an already tense relationship.

Despite the setback, Omotola refused to remain idle.

She ventured into music, releasing her first album, and focused on business, particularly investments and real estate.

Reflecting on the experience, she said the ban ultimately encouraged her to explore new paths rather than dwell on circumstances beyond her control, adding that it did not stop her career from progressing.

Recounting the incident, she said, “The first eight were me, Genevieve, Ramsey Nouah, Jim Iyke, Stella Damasus, RMD, Nkem Owoh, and one other person. We were eight—they just banned us.”

Famous Nigerian actress, Omotola jalade, has addressed the alleged feud with her colleague, Genevieve Nnaji.

DAILY POST reports that it is widely believed that the movie stars were not in good terms.

However, addressing the popular assertion during an interview on Yanga FM, Omotola who clarified that they were never fighting, noted that “people don’t need to be best friends”

While accusing fans of pitching them against each other, Omotola said, “Na them start the quarrel before we know say we dey quarrel. So, we have to catch up with the quarrel. There was no quarrel.”

The interviewer further asked: “Was there anything like say una been quarrel wey lasted for twenty years before EJ movie?”

Omotola replied: “People don’t need to be best friends, but we talked. Like behind film, we dey talk normally. You know the same thing that they do with all these music stars, na we dem take start all those things that time. Na we be the practice that time. You know all this Wizkid, Davido now that they have taken to different level, na we be the first one now. Really, na them start the quarrel before we know say we dey quarrel. So, we have to catch up with the quarrel. There was no quarrel.

“We were young, everybody dey do her own thing now.byou know how the industry is. You know, them go pitch you against this person, talk say na this one be the hottest girl, na that one be the hottest girl. So, those kind tension go dey normally, but people they read am as other things.”

Nollywood actor, Bolanle Ninalowo, has been appointed as the Atlanta, United States, coordinator for a President Bola Tinubu support group known as Relax Tinubu Is Fixing Nigeria, RTIFN.

Ninalowo made this known in a post shared on his Instagram page.

Announcing his appointment, the actor shared a RTIFN poster that has his picture and the All Progressives Congress, APC, logo.

Accepting the appointment, Ninalowo captioned the poster “Honored to serve as Coordinator Atlanta/USA for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.”

DAILY POST reports that RTIFN is an advocacy group founded by Seyi Tinubu to promote President Tinubu’s administration.

The actor made the announcement, hours after Seyi presented an appointment letter to celebrity businessman, Obi Cubana, as the South-East Coordinator for ‘City Boy Movement’, a campaign group for Tinubu’s re-election in 2027.

Veteran Nigerian comic actor, Wale Akorede, popularly known as Okunnu, has called out popular marketer, Olasco Films, over an unpaid job.

Speaking in a now trending interview with media personality, Olugbenga Oropo Valentine on SAWORO program, the actor stated that he hasn’t forgiven Olasco for his refusal to pay for a movie he produced for him some years ago.

Narrating the incident, Okunnu who tagged the unpaid money his “sweat”, noted that he didn’t get a dime from the money made from the movie he produced, directed and played lead role.

“I once did a movie for Olascoand he didn’t give me anything. Not even N5 for pure water till this moment. I don’t know if I will later be paid on judgement day. I haven’t forgiven Olasco. Mr Akeem Balogun Olasco, I don’t know about tomorrow, but as at the moment, I haven’t forgiven Olasco.

“I wrote a movie ‘Aare’. I directed it and played the lead role. Both part 1 and part 2 of the movie were released at the same time. I didn’t see a dime from it. I will be lying if I say Olasco gave me anything from the money made from my sweat”, he said.

Nigerian singer, Chidozie Godsfavour Ugochinyere, popularly known as Fave, has raised an alarm over an alleged directive for artistes not to organise shows in Nigeria during the Islamic Ramadan period.

The Baby Riddim crooner lamented that her plan of organising a show in Nigeria on her birthday March 13, was encountering setbacks as it falls on the Ramadan period, which music concerts are now allegedly prohibited in the period.

On her X handle, she wrote, “So I was tryna do a show in Nigeria on my birthday this year but they’re telling me shows aren’t allowed during Ramadan? I’m a little confused.”

In another post, the singer revealed that promoters have been rejecting her proposed show back-to-back because it falls on the Ramadan.

She argued that Ramadan shouldn’t be affecting her or her business, stressing that she is a Christian and never heard about Ramadan practices until her late teens.

She wrote, “I started this year wanting to do my first show in Nigeria on my birthday as an independent artiste and back to back, promoters kept sending word to my team saying the same thing.

“I grew up in the south and never heard of Ramadan practices till I was in my late teens. I respect all religions. But I’m Christian and I really want to do this on my birthday so if you’re reading this and are open to organize, I’d be so happy.”

The Lagos State Government has hailed the family of late Afrobeat legend, Fela Anikulapo-Kuti, following his posthumous recognition with the Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award, describing the honour as a defining moment for African music and culture.

Fela made history as the first African artist to receive the prestigious award, which was presented on January 31, 2026, during the Grammy Special Merit Awards ceremony held in Los Angeles, United States.
The award was accepted on his behalf by his children, Yeni, Femi, Kunle, and Shalewa Kuti, who represented the family at the ceremony.

Reacting to the development, the Lagos State Commissioner for Tourism, Arts and Culture, Mrs. Toke Benson-Awoyinka, described the recognition as a landmark achievement that reflects the global influence of Fela’s music and message.

According to her, honour is not only a victory for the Kuti family but also a source of pride for Lagos State, Nigeria, and the African continent.

“This historic recognition is a powerful reminder of Lagos State’s enduring position as the cultural heartbeat of Africa and a nurturing ground for creative excellence,” Benson-Awoyinka said.

She noted that Fela’s work placed African music on the world map and continues to resonate across generations, long after his passing.

The commissioner added that the Grammy honour reinforces the state government’s commitment to preserving Fela’s legacy and strengthening the creative sector through sustained support for the arts, culture, and cultural diplomacy.

“Fela’s contribution to global music and social consciousness remains immeasurable. His music boldly confronted military dictatorship, corruption, social injustice, and the oppression of the mass , while amplifying Africa’s voice on the global stage,” she said.

She further stated that nearly three decades after his death, Fela’s music remains relevant, influential, and widely celebrated across the world.

Meanwhile, members of the Kuti family described the award as a deeply meaningful moment, noting that it symbolises a bridge between generations and reflects the growing global recognition of African music and cultural expression.

They noted that the honour affirms Fela’s lasting impact, not only as a musician but as a cultural revolutionary whose work inspired resistance, dialogue, and artistic freedom.

Fela Anikulapo-Kuti, the creator of Afrobeat, was known for blending traditional African rhythms with jazz, funk, and highlife, while using his music as a tool for political expression and social critique.

Beyond music, he emerged as one of Africa’s most fearless voices against oppression, earning global attention for his activism and uncompromising stance against injustice.

Today, his influence can be seen in the works of numerous artists across Africa and beyond, as Afrobeat continues to shape global music trends.

Nigerian actress, Angela Okorie, has been reportedly re-arrested over her alleged refusal to pay the lawyer who secured her bail from Suleja prison.

Angela was re-arrested at the Suleja prison on Tuesday, immediately she was released on bail.

DAILY POST reports that this came less than an hour after actor Stanley Ontop raised the alarm over an alleged plan to re-arrest the actress after release on Tuesday.

Speaking in a video on Instagram, actress Doris Ogala who said she is already on her way to the police station, stated that the actress was re-arrested by an unnamed Senior Advocate of Nigeria, SAN, for refusing to pay the N5 million agreed fee to secure her bail.

Doris said; “You see, one thing is for someone to cut their clothes according to their size. Angela has been arrested again. As a matter of fact, I’m going to the police station now. You see, when Angela was arrested by Mercy, she called a friend of her or village person. I don’t know how they relate. To help her get a SAN.

“And the SAN charged them N5 million. I think the SAN was the one who even facilitated the bail and all that. Now when Angela knew that they have granted her bail according to the lady, Angela started saying that she didn’t ask her to get a SAN and she wasn’t going to pay the money, and meanwhile this lady has deposited.”

DAILY POST reports that Angela, who was granted bail on Friday after her arrest by Mercy Johnson over alleged defamation, regained her freedom few minutes ago after perfecting her bail conditions.

Legendary gospel singer, Ron Kenoly, has passed away.

Kenoly’s death has been confirmed by several artistes via their social media pages.

He was 81.

Top Nigerian minister, Nathaniel Bassey, wrote on Instagram: “Dr Ron Kenoly crosses to yonder side.

“Thank you for inspiring generations of psalmists like me.

“I grew up on these songs. And today, others are growing up on ours.

“Thank you sir.”

Kenoly was behind hit songs like Majesty, righteousnes, peace & joy, Anointing, All honour, Sing out, among others.

Popular Nollywood actor, Stanley Ontop, has raised alarm over an alleged plan to re-arrest actress Angela Okorie after prison release.

DAILY POST reports that Angela was arrested and remanded in Suleja Prison a week ago for allegedly defaming actress Mercy Johnson.

Angela, who was granted bail on Friday by the Federal High Court sitting in Abuja, however remains in prison after her bail condition was processed late .

Updating the public on why the actress still remains in prison despite meeting her bail conditions, Stanley Ontop raised alarm over plans to re-arrest Angela immediately she is released.

Speaking in an Instagram post, Stanley disclosed that some police officers have been stationed at the front of the prison following a fresh petition against the actress.

While calling out the Nigeria Police for alleged lack of professionalism, he wrote; “Angela Okorie will be out in few minutes, there was a delay in the verification of her surety’s residential address yesterday. But the court has signed for her release now!

“We got an info that there’s a fresh petition against Angela Okorie and that some police men are stationed in front of Suleja Prison to apprehend her again immediately she’s released from the prison. May Nigeria never happen to you.

“@nigeriapoliceforce na like this una take dey work? What happened to invitation? Why are you people arresting citizens you are meant to protect? Make nothing shaa happen to Angela Okorie on her release day.”
