Skit maker and actor, Cute Abiola, has denied shading veteran filmmaker, Kunle Afolayan, over his controversial remarks about box office revenue.

DAILY POST reports that Kunle Afolayan had recently criticised the marketing strategies for cinema films.

Speaking in a viral interview on social media, Afolayan, who said he stopped producing cinema movies because the marketing is exhausting, noted that he doesn’t want N1 billion or N2 billion cinema gross that he would only be paid N10 million as personal income.

He said, “I don’t know how the likes of Funke Akindele, others are doing it. But creating every day skits, and changing costumes all the time. I can’t do it. I don’t just want N1 billion or N2 billion in the cinema that I won’t be able to personally receive N10 million from.”

He made the comments at the time when actresses, Funke Akindele and Toyin Abraham, celebrated N2 billion and N1 billion cinema gross, respectively.

Reacting to the development in a series of posts on her Instagram page, Funke Akindele, who alleged that Afolayan has been left behind, further accused him of being jealous.

Amid the controversy, Cute Abiola, who is known as Funke’s close associate, advised his fans to avoid anything that can turn them into an “old taker”.

He wrote on X, “Avoid anything that will make you become an old taker.”

In response, many Nigerians took to the comment section to criticise him for allegedly shading Kunle Afolayan.

Speaking amid the backlash, Cute Abiola denied attacking Afolayan and described as his leader.

“Just to clarify, this tweet was not directed at Kunle Afolayan or anyone in the industry. It was a personal motivation based on something that genuinely inspired me and I decided to share. To everyone under this comment who picked my tweet as subbing my leader Kunle Afolayan! E NO GO BETTER FOR UNA!!! Like  ENKR, odaju ni gbogbo yin oooo Walai ! Eyin nu olohun nu,” he wrote.

Nollywood actress Toyin Alausa has spoken out against the growing trend of sharing photos and videos of deceased persons on social media, describing it as disturbing, disrespectful and unnecessary.

In a post on her Instagram page on Monday, Alausa questioned the motive behind publicly exposing the dead, warning that such actions strip individuals of dignity and deepen the pain of grieving families.

She stressed that the rush to post graphic content for online engagement has become alarmingly common.

“The way people just expose the dead on social media these days is so annoying and mind-boggling. What’s the point, actually?” she wrote.

The actress urged social media users to show empathy by at least covering the faces of deceased persons, particularly in cases of accidents or sudden deaths. According to her, doing so is a basic sign of respect and helps protect the emotional wellbeing of relatives.

“Immediately it’s confirmed that someone has passed, the right thing to do is to cover them, at least the face. It’s about showing respect, offering dignity, and, in a way, providing emotional closure for their relatives,” she said.

While acknowledging that documentation may sometimes be necessary for clarification or public interest, Alausa insisted such content should not be turned into viral material.

“This inhumane attitude has sadly become the norm. It may be important to get footage for clarification or when immediate relatives aren’t nearby, but not to be splashed as content on social media. It’s so disrespectful,” she added.

Alausa also warned that repeated exposure to images of the deceased can be traumatic, not just for families, but for the wider public, calling for greater sensitivity and restraint online.

“Seeing a blank face devoid of life and emotions can be extremely traumatic. We can do better and be more empathic,” she said.

Ossai Ovie, Senior Special Assistant on Media to the Delta State Governor, has expressed dissatisfaction with the outfits worn by Nigerian attendees at the 68th Grammy Awards.

In a post shared on his social media page, Ovie criticised what he described as the poor representation of Nigerian culture at the global event, lamenting that Nigerian artists failed to project their cultural identity through their fashion choices.

He specifically commented on the outfit worn by Chioma Adeleke, describing it as inappropriate and inconsistent with Nigerian cultural values.

Ovie also faulted her husband, music star Davido, for not discouraging the choice of attire.

“I am disappointed in Chioma Davido’s dressing. She shouldn’t have been half-naked to Grammy.

“She didn’t represent Nigerian culture well, embracing a half naked revealing Western style instead. Cultural representation matters, and it’s crucial.”

“I am disappointed in Davido for allowing her to dress this way. I am really disappointed,” he stated.

Nigerian reality star and comedian, Aderombi Adedayo, has claimed that his invitation by the Nigeria police force is politically motivated.

The comedian made the revelation on Monday morning in a video posted on his Instagram page.

While calling out the Nigeria Police for allegedly trailing him, DeeOne announced that he’s already on his way to the police station for interrogation.

DeeOne further advised the Nigeria Police and the Army to be more professional by staying away from political issues.

“My invitation was politically motivated. And let it be clear, Nigeria police and Nigerian army stay away from politics. Another thing, 1% of the 1% are not scared.

“Nobody should beg for me. You have to fight for your rights in this country. So, I’m on my way. If this will be my last video on earth no problem. No be today police brutality don dey happen. I will face anything that wants to happen. For Nigeria police to want to know where I stay, to want to kidnap me”, he said.

DAILY POST reports that DeeOne on Thursday January 29 2026 revealed that he has been invited by the police Force Intelligence Department, FID, for a routine interview.

Nigerian singer and Grammy nominee, Davido has revealed that his hit track With You, featuring Omah Lay, almost didn’t make the final cut of his 5IVE album.

Speaking during an interview with OkayAfrica, reposted by HYPETRIBE on Monday, Davido shared that the song failed to impress during internal listening sessions and was not seen as a standout by his team.

“Man, it’s so crazy because that song almost didn’t make the album. With You was not in anybody’s top five,” he said.

The singer admitted that the song’s massive success later became an emotional moment for him, as he often reflects on how close it came to being left out.

“And now look at it go. Every time I was performing it, my heart would just start beating like, what if I didn’t put this song?” Davido added.

With You went on to earn Davido another Grammy nomination and has since become one of his most successful recent releases, topping charts and surpassing 100 million streams on Spotify.

Davido also recalled how he found out about the nomination, describing it as unexpected.

He said the call came while he was in Dubai, just days before his birthday, as he was out checking a car.

“They were like, ‘Oh yeah, another nomination.’ I was like, wow. Thank God,” he recalled.

Looking ahead, Davido said his focus is firmly on touring and releasing new music.

He confirmed that he will perform at Coachella 2026, making him the only Nigerian artist on the festival’s lineup.

The singer is scheduled to take the stage on both Saturdays, April 11 and April 18, 2026, in Indio, California.

“Going back on tour, definitely more music. I’m about to do Coachella. Big plans,” he said.

U.S. President Donald Trump has criticised the Grammy Awards, describing the ceremony as “virtually unwatchable” and accusing its host, Trevor Noah, of making a false and defamatory statement about him.

In a post on his Truth Social account, Trump said the Grammys were among the “worst” award shows and claimed broadcaster CBS was “lucky” to no longer air what he called “garbage.”

He also took aim at Noah’s performance as host, comparing him unfavourably to late-night talk show host Jimmy Kimmel.

Trump’s comments followed a remark by Noah during the awards ceremony in which he referenced Trump and former President Bill Clinton in relation to convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein.

Trump strongly denied ever visiting Epstein’s private island or being associated with it in any way.

“I have never been to Epstein Island, nor anywhere close,” Trump wrote, insisting that he had never previously been accused of such by the media.

He said Noah’s comment was incorrect and defamatory.

The president warned that he was considering legal action against Noah, calling him a “pathetic” and “talentless” master of ceremonies, and suggested his lawyers could pursue a lawsuit for damages.

Trump also referenced previous legal disputes involving media figures, saying they had “worked out well” for him.

Paul Ibe, media aide to former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, has blamed the death of fast-rising Nigerian musician, Ifunanya Nwangene, on poor healthcare facilities in the country.

DAILY POST reports that the Abuja-based musician, a soprano singer with the Amemuso Choir, died on Saturday at the Federal Medical Centre, Abuja, following a snake bite.

Reacting to the unfortunate incident, Ibe said in a post on his official X handle on Sunday that Nigeria “happened” to the young lady.

He wondered why such a public hospital in the nation’s capital would not be equipped with snake antivenom.

He wrote: “Fast-rising singer Ifunanya Nwangene, 26, was not killed by a snake. She was killed by Nigeria, or as is often said, Nigeria happened to her.

“To imagine that a public hospital in the Federal Capital Territory does not have snake antivenom, in a supposedly high-burden area for snakebite in Nigeria.

“Meanwhile, anti-opposition is available in great quantity.”

Afrobeats superstars Wizkid, Burna Boy, and Asake have been announced as the headliners for the much-anticipated Afro Nation 2026 festival in Portugal.

The festival organizers revealed the lineup in an official post on X (@AfroNation), promising a celebration that blends established icons with rising international talent.

Scheduled for Friday, July 3 to Sunday, July 5, the three-day festival will take place at the picturesque Praia da Rocha Beach in Portimão, Portugal.

Widely regarded as one of the world’s premier showcases of Afrobeats, Amapiano, and R&B, Afro Nation has become a global cultural phenomenon.

Grammy-winning Nigerian star Burna Boy, celebrated for his eclectic mix of Afrobeat, dancehall, and global rhythms, is set to open the festival on July 3.

Sharing the stage with him will be South African sensation Tyla, whose meteoric rise in Amapiano has cemented her status as a breakthrough international artist.

Asake, known for his energetic fusion of Afrobeats, street pop, and soulful melodies, will headline July 4, while Wizkid is slated to close the festival on July 5.

In addition to the headliners, Afro Nation 2026 will feature a diverse array of international performers.

American R&B singer Kehlani and rapper Gunna are among the special guests, bringing cross-genre appeal to the festival.

Several Nigerian acts, including Olamide, Young John, Darkoo, Wande Coal, and Mavo, will also perform, highlighting the continued global rise of African music.

According to organizers, early-access tickets will go on sale on February 5, giving fans the opportunity to secure passes ahead of the general public sale.

Afro Nation, launched in 2019 in Portugal by The Malachite Group, is an annual three-day festival that celebrates African music, culture, fashion, and cuisine while connecting the African diaspora worldwide.

Over the years, the festival has expanded to locations including Ghana, Puerto Rico, Miami, and Detroit. Past headliners include Burna Boy, Wizkid, Davido, Megan Thee Stallion, 50 Cent, Chris Brown, and Nicki Minaj.

Veteran Nollywood actress, Bimbo Akintola has explained why she does not live as lavishly as some of her colleagues, attributing it to the tough financial realities of Nigeria’s film industry.

Speaking in a recent interview, Akintola dismissed the notion that acting alone can make many actresses wealthy, stressing that earnings from movie platforms such as Africa Magic are often insufficient to sustain extravagant lifestyles.

“We hear stories of some actresses who do things with politicians for money. So when people ask me why I am not rich like the others, I tell them to go ask them what other jobs they do.”

“Cus we know how much Africa Magic & other platforms pay for a movie,” she said.

The veteran actress, who has spent decades in Nollywood, noted that the public often misunderstands the true sources of wealth in the entertainment industry, adding that many of the flashy lifestyles seen online cannot be justified by acting fees alone.

Award-winning filmmaker, Kunle Afolayan, has revealed that there has been a tense phone call with actress and producer Funke Akindele.

The conversation came after controversy over Afolayan’s remarks on film promotion strategies in Nollywood.

In an interview with Arise News on Sunday, Afolayan said Akindele called him personally after his comments, which seemed to suggest he had dismissed colleagues who promote their movies through dance-driven campaigns.

“She called, and she said, ‘I know you don’t like me, but don’t mention my name in your interviews,’ she was yelling, and she dropped the phone after that,” Afolayan said.

He insisted that there was no bad blood between them and claimed their relationship is long-standing and professionl.

“It was weird, and I’m like, where is this coming from. She’s like a sister to me. In Unilag, I would go to her hostel, her sister is also my friend, so I am not sure where this is coming from,” Afolayan added.
