The organisers of the Headies have announced that the awards will be leaving Nigeria again, unveiling Canada as the host of the 18th edition. 

Recall that the awards first left Nigeria in 2022 for its 15th edition in Atlanta but returned to Lagos for the 17th edition in 2025. 

Speaking on Monday during “The Big Announcement” event held at Eko Hotels and Suites in Lagos, Headies founder, Ayo Animashaun said the decision to hold the 18th Headies in Toronto, Canada, was highly economical. 

He explained that that although the main ceremony will take place in Toronto, it will run simultaneously with a live watch party in Lagos, where Nigerian fans will participate in the celebration and witness portions of the awards presentation as the event unfolds abroad.

Animashaun said, “Someone said Ayo, you are taking the Headies out of the country again, he said it doesn’t make sense. Tell me what makes sense. Does it make sense for us not to do it anymore? 

“So how do we fund it? We will have a watch Party in Lagos.”

Actor Baba Ijesha and celebrity stylist Luminee have welcomed their first child together, a baby boy named Kagar Omiyinka.

The development was disclosed by Luminee in a post shared on her Instagram page, where she announced the arrival of their son and expressed gratitude for the new addition to their family.

In the post, Luminee described the arrival of the baby as a joyful moment for the family.

“We are overwhelmed with joy. Our little star has arrived to light up our lives. Our lives are complete,” she wrote.

Luminee also praised her husband, Baba Ijesha, describing him as a supportive partner and expressing appreciation for his role throughout their journey to parenthood.

“I heart you, my Ijesha. You are one in a million. Your heart is pure. God gave us more than we prayed for, my ever-strong man, Baba Ijesha. I love you till eternity,” she stated.

She further described the birth of their son, Kagar Omiyinka, as a special gift and a privilege, noting that she was grateful for the opportunity to become a mother.

Nollywood actress, Miriam Ogbonna has shared her views on love, revealing that a monetary gift is the only way a man can truly prove his love to her.

The movie star stated that she would never believe a man professing love to her until he backed it up with money.

She explained that gifting a crush or lover money is a good way of expressing love because making money is difficult. 

On her X handle, the actress wrote, “If you don’t give me money, I will never ever ever agree that you like or love me.

“You have to give me money. Money is hard to come by. So, if you give me the money you suffered for, ehen, I will know that you like/love me.”

Media personality, Daddy Freeze, has mocked gospel singer and pastor, Nathaniel Bassey, over his inability to heal or raise the late actor Alex Ekubo.

DAILY POST reports that Nathaniel Bassey had during Alex’s service of songs last week narrated how he was called by a pastor friend to go and minister to Alex at the hospital.

While revealing that Alex unfortunately died a day before his appointment with him, Nathaniel Bassey noted that he still proceeded to go and pray with the deceased family on the appointed date, which was a day after his death.

Reacting to Nathaniel Bassey’s speech at the event, Daddy Freeze in an Instagram live video over the weekend, said the pastor could have used the opportunity of the visit to bring Alex back to life.

“So we’re sitting down minding our business, and Nathaniel Bassey climbed the pulpit, then he blows the trumpet. Ok, you can signify the trumpet in revelation, linking with the end of the world, it was the end of Alex world, may his soul rest in peace.

“But then he now starts talking and said he has never met Alex before, but then his pastor friend said they should go and pray for Alex and sing for Alex. But they want to go on Tuesday but Alex died on Monday. And then they still went on the Tuesday and still sang and prayed.

“And I’m like really? What happened to all your miracles, healing and your resurrection that you post on your platforms? I would have thought this is an opportunity to show your God’s glory,” Freeze said.

Nollywood actress and filmmaker, Funmi Awelewa, has opened up about her emotional struggles.

The actress said she is exhausted from dealing with betrayal.

Awelewa opened up in a post shared via her social media handle.

Daddy Freeze, a veteran Nigerian On Air Personality, OAP, has revealed why he left Alex Ekubo’s service of songs.

He made the disclosure during Instagram live over the weekend.

DAILY POST reports that the late actor, Alex Ekubo’s service of songs was held last week Wednesday in Lagos state, with many prominent figures, including gospel singers, pastors, Nollywood stars, Daddy Freeze and other personalities in attendance.

Revealing why he left while the ceremony was ongoing, Daddy Freeze in an Instagram video over the weekend, said the singer turned the funeral event into a concert.

While questioning Mercy’s understanding about funeral, he asked “Does Mercy Chinwo not have soft music?”

“Mercy Chinwo climbed the pulpit and turned the place to a concert. At that point I got up and left. Does Mercy Chinwo not have soft music?

“Do you understand what a funeral is? The kind of music that should be played at a funeral is soft music. They should have just played hymns for like two hours, then I would have sat down there and enjoyed it. So at the time she was performing, I just got up and left.”

DAILY POST reports that gospel musicians that sang at the ceremony included Mercy Chinwo, Peterson Okopi, Moses Bliss, Ebuka songs, the Laud Urban Choir, among others.

Actress Toyin Adewale, the mother of singer Mayorkun, has disclosed that she initially thought it was a scammer when Davido first contacted her son.

She stated this while discussing Mayorkun’s relationship with Davido and how he rose to fame.

Speaking during her appearance on Talk to B podcast on Saturday, the veteran actress disclosed that she initially thought Davido was a scammer when he first sent a direct message to Mayorkun on social media.

Adewale explained that Davido later called Mayorkun on the phone and arranged a meeting with him, marking the beginning of their relationship.

“After the cover he did went viral, he was with his brother when Davido sent a message, but we thought it was a scammer. Davido later said he would call. I was also with him when Davido called, Mayorkun was so excited and almost went crazy.

“He told Mayorkun to send his measurements that he traveled. But when he returned, Mayowa and his brother went to meet him. That was when he gave them a full box of gifts and money. Although I was scared at the time because I didn’t know who Davido was.

“Mayorkun went back the following day, and that was when they recorded ‘Eleko’. It was easy for Mayorkun because he had been in the choir and had always loved to write poetry. After the recording, he moved in with Davido. After a while, I went there to see where they were staying, Davido was very pleasant and respectful,” she said.

Media personality, Daddy Freeze, has stated that the late actor Alex Ekubo wasn’t going to glory.

He stated this during an Instagram live session while reacting to the ongoing backslash over his choice of outfit to Alex’s service of songs on Wednesday.

DAILY POST reports that the service of songs was held in Lagos on June 10 2026, with the dress code written on the invite.

Daddy Freeze and his wife have been in the news since the event after putting on black dress against white that was stipulated as the dress code.

Speaking amid the backlash, Daddy Freeze who insisted that Alex is too young to die, said “he was not going to glory, he was a tragic loss until we were able to wrap our head around that”.

While admitting that it’s wrong for him to go against the dress code, he attributed it to oversight.

He said, “Yes I was wrong to have gone with black, but I honestly did not see that part of the invite, my eyes did not go there.

“The dress code was written at the corner of the invite sent to me. I didn’t see where they wrote white only. So what I was saying was for me, I don’t see what they were rejoicing, I don’t see what the concept was about. But for me, it was sorrowful because somebody who was that young at least compared to me. He did not meet me in secondary school, my mother’s youngest child is one year old than Alex.

“So for me, he was not going to glory, he was a tragic loss until we were able to wrap our head around that. Yes I agree that he has gone to a better place but I just don’t agree that he needed to go now, neither do I agree with the people that were saying Christ died at 33. What Christ achieved at 33, I’m sure Alex would have loved to stay longer to achieve that much. He had no business dying. And anybody that wants to argue that can argue it. Me personally, I don’t believe that. Or do you believe Alex died empty? He has finished his work and earth. Do you believe that? Can we stop being sentimental and be honest?

“Yes I was wrong to have gone with black but I honestly did not see that part of the invite, my eyes did not go there. I do not believe that service of songs has a dress code. Them dey drag me oo say the family said they should wear white, I wore black. The part of Nigeria that I come from , na black or traditional that they wear to funeral, I did not understand the white. I just thought that we were mourning. Go and look at all the blogs now, they dragged me. And I was not going for a party. In my own mind, white and service of songs did not go together. I’m very sorry if you feel offended.”

Nollywood actress Nancy Isime has shared her views on faith, claiming that she is not a “typical Nigerian Christian.”

Speaking in a recent interview with Jay On-Air, Isime explained that, unlike some Nigerian Christians, she does not look up to a pastor or a priest for direction, but uses her intuitions in following Jesus.

The movie star, however, noted that she has some “anchors” like Apostle Joshua Selman, whom she learns from.

“I don’t serve mortals. So, I don’t have the need to perform for mortals. And I would always have a mind of my own. I would always do my own thing. I would always figure out God for myself. 

“But of course, I have anchors, whom I listen to; preachers like Apostle Joshua Selman. When you understand the kind of preachers I listen to, you will understand where I am coming from. I am not your typical Nigerian Christian, and I don’t want to be. I have my own mindset just like Jesus,” she explained.

Presidential candidate of the African Democratic Congress, ADC, Atiku Abubakar, has expressed sadness over the death of veteran actor, Kola Oyewo, describing him as a legendary thespian whose contributions to African theatre will never be forgotten.

DAILY POST had earlier reported that the actor died on Friday. The news of his passing was announced by his son, Adetoyese Oyewo.

Reacting to the development, Atiku, in a statement on his X handle on Saturday, said, “I am deeply saddened by the passing of Dr. Kola Oweyo, a legendary thespian and scholar of African drama.

“His iconic role as King Lapite in the timeless “Saworoide” immortalised his immense talent and teachings.

“A great void has been left in Theatre Arts.

“He will be sorely missed by lovers of African stories worldwide.

“I join his family and fans in mourning this exceptional dramatist and teacher of social conscience. May his soul rest in peace.”
