Veteran Kannywood actress Wasila Isma’il has died at the age of 46 after a long illness.

Her former husband, Al-Amin Chiroma, confirmed her death in a social media post on Sunday. He said she died at the FOMWAN Hospital in Kaduna.

The actress, who was born in Kaduna, was widely known for her roles in Hausa films and rose to prominence after starring in the 1999 film Wasila, directed by Yakubu Lere alongside Ali Nuhu.

She began her acting career in 1998 with the film Jinin Masoya.

In an earlier interview, she explained why the film’s title was changed from Jamila to Wasila.

“I didn’t like the name Jamila because I feared it might tarnish my name, so I asked for it to be changed, and the director agreed,” she said.

Fans and colleagues have since taken to social media to mourn her, praising her contributions to the Kannywood film industry.

Nigerian media personality and content creator, Amarachi Amusi, popularly known as Ashmusy, has said that at 30, she is not in a rush to get married. 

She explained that after freezing her eggs to protect her dream of becoming a mother, she now feels secure.

Speaking in a recent episode of the Echo Room podcast, Ashmusy revealed that she almost got married to someone she knew wasn’t her ideal husband out of desperation and the “myth of the biological clock.”

She said, “I want to get married, but I am not desperate. Just in case the right suitor doesn’t come, I am already safeguarded. I am already sure of being a mom by God’s grace. 

“Honestly, most women who rush into marriage early do so because of the myth of the biological clock… With that rush, you now end up getting into the wrong marriage. I almost did. I knew the man wasn’t my ideal husband, but I wanted to get married to him because he was ready, and I was desperate to give birth before I clocked 35. 

“But I don’t have to go through again because I have frozen my eggs. In the next 3-10 years, I can confidently go for insemination and have my mixed kid. I want to have a mixed kid,” Ashmusy added.

Popular Yoruba actress, Omoshalewa Yusuf, better known as Basira Beere, has finally spoken about her failed marriage.

The actress, during her recent appearance on Talk to B podcast, accused her now ex-husband of physical abuse.

Narrating her experience, Basira Beere, who disclosed that she lost four pregnancies to domestic violence, blamed her prolonged stay in the marriage on advice from her parents.

“When I was about to get married to him, my friends complained that he was of a lower calibre than me, but I told them that I also came from nothing before fame. I sponsored about 70% of our wedding ceremony. I thought I was supporting my man.

“His problem started two days after our wedding. Days after the wedding, a guy texted me to congratulate me on the wedding, and I called him ‘dear,’ and that was when the problem started. It was so tough; he beat me so much that even our landlord tried to intervene.

“If I explained what happened to my parents, they kept telling me to be patient and endure. Only my siblings who were living with me could attest to what I went through. He beat me over little things to the point that I lost about four pregnancies. During the last fight we had, I was covered in blood. In fact, Gistlover posted about it. I don’t know who leaked it to them,” she said.

Big Brother Naija Season 7 winner Josephina Otabor, popularly known as Phyna, has said her biggest regret is using the prize money she won from the show to support family members instead of investing it.

Phyna said she was young and naive when she left the show and didn’t manage the prize money she won properly. 

Speaking during a recent livestream, the reality star blamed her family members for not giving him good financial advice. 

She said instead of encouraging her to invest, they were constantly demanding for financial support and even turned against her when she wasn’t able to meet their request. 

“The mistake I made was using my Big Brother Naija prize money to support family members instead of investing it. I thought I was helping my family members and sorting out their debts. I was spending generously on them. None of the older family members called me to give me financial advice on how to invest or manage the money well. 

“All of them were constantly demanding money from me for several stuff. I dug a lot of boreholes for family members. But the moment I started saying ‘No’ that was the beginning of my problem with family members. They complain and even call me out in the media whenever I can’t meet their demands. But now that the money has finished, I’m the only one facing the reality alone,” she lamented. 

DAILY POST recalls that Phyna received a N100 million grand prize as the winner of Big Brother Naija Season 7 in 2022.

The package consisted of N50 million in actual cash and another N50 million worth of prizes from the show’s sponsors.

Popular Nigerian actress, Shan George, has claimed that having sexual intercourse with a married woman attracts curses.

The actress made this claim in a lengthy post shared on her Facebook page at the weekend while reacting to the ongoing controversy about Frank Edoho’s messy marital crisis with his wife, Sandra Edoho.

DAILY POST reports that Frank, a famous Nigerian media personality, had over a week ago accused Sandra of having extramarital affairs with singer Chike Ezekpeazu Osebuka, popularly known by his stage name, Chike.

Defending herself, Sandra also accused Frank of cheating on her with some Nigerian celebrities.

While Chike is yet to deny or address the allegation, many celebrities have continued to condemn the singer’s act after Frank shared his alleged evidence.

Condemning the incident, Shan George told Chike to apologise to Frank, noting that “sleeping with another man’s wife is a TUFIAKWA that carries generational curses.”

Advising couples on how to settle disputes amicably, she wrote, “Any form of ‘Do me I do you’ must be avoided at such times, until you resolve the issues. As for the ladies, please, if the marriage taya you, after trying all your best, please leave the marriage, doing asewo inside marriage is a sacrilege.

“In conclusion, Chike owes Frank Edoho and all men whose wives he has chewed, an apology”, she wrote

Romeeyo has revealed that the struggles and sacrifices of his mother played a major role in shaping his music journey and inspiring his rise in the Nigerian entertainment industry.

The fast-rising Afrobeats singer, born Daniel Oluwatobi Aderibole, made the disclosure while speaking about the inspiration behind his debut project and his passion for creating emotionally driven music.

According to the singer, watching his mother endure difficult moments while making sacrifices for her family motivated him to pursue success and make her proud.

“My mother’s struggles inspired me. This is for every woman who sacrificed everything for her children,” Romeeyo said.

The young artiste explained that his music reflects gratitude, love, and appreciation for mothers who continue to support their children despite economic hardship and personal challenges.

Romeeyo noted that many young people often overlook the sacrifices made by their mothers, stressing that he hopes his message will encourage greater appreciation for parents, especially mothers.

He added that his goal is not only to entertain fans but also to create music that connects emotionally with people and tells real-life stories.

Media personality Ebuka Obi-Uchendu has opened up about his struggle with smoking addiction and how he was able to overcome it.

Speaking in a recent episode of the ‘MENtality’ along with singer Banky W and social media influencer Aproko, Ebuka revealed that he started smoking in JSS3.

He explained that he smoked for 13 years and was taking two packs of cigarettes daily.

“I started smoking JSS3. I smoked for 13 years. By the time I entered university, I was smoking two packs a day. I was a heavy smoker,” he recalled.

Ebuka said that he eventually gave up the addiction after making deliberate efforts to overcome it.

Similarly, Banky W revealed that he got addicted to pornography while trying to overcome promiscuity.

He explained that he thought turning to pornography would make him less promiscuous.

“I was trying to battle pornography and decided that instead of moving from woman to woman, I should just be watching pornography,” he said.

Ebuka added that a lot people also made the similar mistake switching to a new  addiction in a bid to avoid the previous one.

On his part, Aproko doctor said many negative addictions developed as a result of people seeking escapism.

“Human beings have two ambitions. The first is to avoid pain. The second is to chase pleasure. A lot of drug use comes because a lot of people are trying to avoid pain,” he said.

The trio emphasised on self-regulation and self-discovery as important tools for overcoming negative addiction.

I started smoking in JSS3 – Ebuka Obi-Uchendu

Nollywood actress Sophia Chisom, popularly known as Soso, has said actors are supposed to engage in onscreen kisses solely for professionality and not seeking pleasure.

The actress stated this while reacting to the complaint by some actors that they have never had a good kiss in the movie industry.

Speaking in an interview with TVC, Soso said it is difficult for any male colleague to get a good kiss from her because she doesn’t involve her tongue during onscreen kisses.

She explained that she often close her teeth and use just her lips when shooting a kissing scene, stressing that she’s very conscious of who she exchanged saliva with.

“I don’t know if people kiss with their tongues but I do not kiss with my tongue. My teeth are always close during kissing scenes so it is just the lips. But because it is an act, we have to make it believable.

“Some people kiss with their tongues but I don’t think it is okay to swap saliva with every single person that you shoot with. Besides, it is a job. So whenever I see a colleague complaining that they didn’t get a good kiss it is weird. You are not supposed to get a good kiss, it is a job,” she remarked.

Recently, some Nollywood actors including Saga Adeolu, Soso’s frequent collaborator, have come out to say that onscreen kisses are not pleasurable, stressing that they are yet to get a good kiss in the movie industry.

Nigerian rapper Blaqbonez has revealed why he rejected an offer to join Mavin Records despite being allegedly offered one million dollars.

He made this known via a short post on his official X handle.

According to Blaqbonez, one of the major reasons he declined the offer was because he does not enjoy being highly active on social media or constantly engaging fans online, which he suggested may not align with the demands of a major record label.

He wrote,l, “Need to get this off my chest before chanel drops, the reason I didn’t sign to mavin when they were begging me with a million dollars is cos i don’t really like posting, I prefer 1 tweet per year than engaging my fans, I’m too big for that, I’m mysterious.”

While many of these entertainers made their battles with the disease public, some took it away from the public until their death

The frequency of the disease has attracted discussions among netizens.

The recent and most shocking among them is the death of Alex Ekubo.

DAILY POST reports that Alex Ekubo, a prominent Nollywood actor, passed away on May 11 2026 following complications from kidney cancer. 

2. Tom Njemanze

The 75-year-old veteran actor died from prostate cancer on July 18 2025.

Tom Njemanze passed away about three weeks after soliciting financial help for an urgent surgery.

3. Ify Onwuemene

Everyday People’s actress, Ify Onwuemene, died on May 25, 2021 after years of battle with stage 4 endometrial cancer.

Ify, who underwent eight sessions of chemotherapy, also had her womb removed before her demise.

4. Aishat Abimbola

Famous Nollywood actress, Aishat Abimbola, popularly known as Omoge Campus, died in Canada on May 15 2018, after a battle with breast cancer.

5. Actress Doris Chima 

The then chairman of the Actors Guild of Nigeria, AGN, Lagos State chapter, Emeka Rising, confirmed Doris Chima’s death in August 2021.

The veteran actress who lost one of her breasts to breast cancer, reportedly died from the complications.

6. Actor Karibi Fubara

Nollywood actor, Karibi Fubara, died in December 2021, from kidney tumor/cancer.

He died a year after surviving a surgery to remove about 90 per cent of the kidney tumour in 2020.

7. Singer Majek Fashek

Popular legendary Reggae singer, Majekodunmi Fasheke, professionally known as Majek Fashek died in June 2020 after battling with esophageal cancer.

8. Singer Sonny Okosun

Sonny Okosuns, a 61-year-old legendary Nigerian musician and political activist with international recognition, died from colon cancer  on May 24 2008, in Washington.

9. Singer Aduke Gold

Popular Nigerian gospel singer, Aduke Gold, passed away from cervical cancer on August 11, 2024, at the University College Hospital in Ibadan. 

10. Sound Sultan

One of the Nigerian most influential music icons, Olanrewaju Fasasi, professionally known as Sound Sultan, died in the United States on July 11, 2021, at the age of 44.

He died after a battle with a rare blood cancer called Angioimmunoblastic T-cell lymphoma.
