Veteran Nigerian movie stars, Kanayo O. Kanayo and Sola Sobowale, have won Industry Merit Award at the 2026 Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards, AMVCA.

The duo were honored with the awards on Saturday night during the 12th edition of the AMVCA awards ceremony held at Eko Hotel and Suites in Lagos state.

The awards recognised their decades-long contributions to the Nigerian movie industry and their impact as two of Nollywood’s most respected screen icons.

Receiving the award, Shola Shobowale, who appreciated the organisers and her fans, specially appreciated her children for making motherhood an easy journey for her and her career.

“I want to specially thank God Almighty for keeping till this day to have this. I thank my children. Thank you to all my colleagues. I thank my fans because without you ‘Ko si Shola’ (there’s no Shola) It truly is an honour”, she said

On his part, Kanayo O. Kanayo used the moment to speak against xenophobic attacks in South Africa.

Nigerian influencer, Priscilla Ojo has revealed that her husband, Juma Jux, a Tanzanian singer, was presumed impotent in his country because he didn’t have a child at 35 despite his fame and wealth. 

She said the suspicion stirred from the fact that his friends and fellow musicians all have children but he didn’t have at that time despite dating multiple women. 

Priscilla disclosed this during a candid interview with media personality Chude Jidenowo while recounting the challenges she and her husband went through before welcoming their first child in August 2025.

She said even after the birth of their child, the suspicions did not end as many still speculated that their child was through surrogacy or implantation. 

“In his country Tanzania, people thought he was impotent because he did not have a child or babymama like his many of his friends and colleagues. They were like, ‘Why he is not having kids like his friends?’ Because obviously, he has been in past relationships. 

“They were questions but he knew when it was time. He is very disciplined. He knew what he wanted. You can roll with certain people and not be like them,” she added. 

Priscilla and Juma Jux held their civil wedding in Tanzania in February 2025 before moving to Lagos, Nigeria for traditional and white weddings in April 2025.

The couple welcomed their first child, a boy named Prince Rakeem Ayomide Mkambala, in Canada in August 2025.

The duo recreated the viral snub video on Saturday during the hosting segment at the 2026 edition of the Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards ceremony in Lagos State.

DAILY POST recalls that Funke Akindele had, during the premiere of Iyabo Ojo’s movie, *The Return of Arinzo* in March 2026, publicly snubbed Toyin Abraham over their rivalry.

Following the controversy, the duo unfollowed each other on social media, with Iyabo Ojo accusing Toyin Abraham of violating a peace agreement with Akindele.

Lisabi, a movie by actors Lateef Adedimeji and Mobimpe, has won the Best Indigenous Language Film (West Africa) award at the 12th edition of the Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards, AMVCA.

The ongoing 2026 AMVCA awards ceremony was held on Saturday, May 9, 2026, at Eko Hotel and Suites in Lagos.

Receiving the award, Lateef dedicated it to his wife, Mobimpe, who gave birth to triplets a week ago after five years of marriage.

He said, “This award is dedicated to the woman who made me chase my dream. The woman who gave me my three kings.”

DAILY POST reports that the movie won the award for two consecutive years.

Recall that Lisabi: A Legend Is Born won the Best Indigenous Language Film award in 2025.

Popular Nigerian musician, Rema, is set to headline the 2026 World Cup in Los Angeles.
FIFA made this known in an Instagram post while unveiling the lineup artistes scheduled to perform at the event.

The singer is booked to perform at the World Cup opening ceremony on June 12 2026 alongside LISA, Katy Perry, Tyla, Future, and Anitta.

“This lineup of artists reflects the cultural diversity of the United States and the vibrancy of its many diasporas, highlighting the nation’s rich influence on music, entertainment, and pop culture, while showcasing the power of music to bring people together across the country,” FIFA wrote.

DAILY POST reports that “Dai Dai”, the tournament’s official anthem performed by Burna Boy and Shakira, is scheduled for release on 14 May.

The World Cup final will feature its first Super Bowl-style halftime show, curated by Coldplay’s Chris Martin on July 19.

Rema to headline 2026 World Cup

Nigerian rapper and singer, Shallipopi, has revealed why he switched from rap music to singing.

Featuring in a recent episode of the Afrobeats Intelligence podcast, the ‘Cast’ hitmaker explained that he was originally a rap star but embraced Amapiano for financial reasons.

According to him, Amapiano is more lucrative than rap music.

“I have been rapping for a while. I am a trap star. They made me do Amapiano. It is Amapiano that bring food to the table, so we will do it. I will drag it with them,” he said.

Shallipopi said rap was his “first love” but he struggled to make a fortune from it partly due to Nigerian music fans’ orientation and lack of support.

On why he rejected the Headies award for Best Rap Song, which was won by his song ‘Cast’ last year, Shallipopi said he rejected it because the organisers attempted to box him as just a rapper.

He insisted that they should have given awards in both singing and rapping categories.

Operatives of the Federal Capital Territory, FCT Police Command have arrested one Emmanuel Odiniya, father of former Big Brother Naija housemate, Ilebaye, over suspected domestic violence.

DAILY POST earlier reported how reality TV star cried out for help during an Instagram Livestream on Friday night.

A viral video clip captured moments where the father was brutally assaulting the celebrity, raising concerns amongst Nigerians.

Responding to the concerns, the Police Public Relations Officer of the FCT Command, SP Josephine Adeh, in a statement on Saturday said the lady was immediately rescued and taken to hospital after the alarm.

“At about 12:00 a.m., the FCT Police Command responded to a distress call from Royal Anchor Estate, Wuye, Abuja, reporting an ongoing physical assault on Ms. Ilebaye Odiniya Emmanuel by her father, Hon. Emmanuel Odiniya.

“Following the report, a patrol team from Wuye Division, supported by operatives of the Department of Operations, FCT Police Command, was immediately deployed to the scene. The Command’s Police Public Relations Officer was also present to monitor the operation.

“Upon arrival, officers discovered that the gate to the residence was locked. After several attempts, access was gained into the compound at about 2:30 a.m. Ms. Ilebaye Odiniya, who was found with visible bruises, was rescued alongside her brothers and rushed to NNPC Hospital, Abuja, where she received medical attention.

“Hon. Emmanuel Odiniya is currently in police custody, while a thorough investigation is ongoing to determine the full circumstances surrounding the incident,” the police spokesperson said in a statement.

Police arrest ex-BBNaija winner Ilebaye’s father over assault after viral video

Former winner of Big Brother Naija reality show, Ilebaye, has called on the general public for help over domestic violence and physical assault.

Ilebaye, who was seen with a swollen face, cried for help on Friday midnight on her Instagram Livestream.

A now trending video of the Livestream captured the reality star screaming and crying for help as a man believed to be her father was seen brutally beating and physically assaulting her in the background.

Speaking amid the incident, she was heard saying “Nigerians help me, I need to go. I need to leave this house, I’m being locked up. I’m tired of assault, please come and help me.”

Reacting to the scary incident, BBNaija’s Tacha, in a video on her Instagram story, called on anyone in Abuja to help her lead the police to Ilebaye’s house to rescue her.

“I really just want to know who is in Abuja right now, that can take the police to Ilebaye’s house. Ilebaye’s face has been ruined. I don’t even know who did it but from the video I have seen they are really brutal”, she said.

Nollywood couple, actress Adebimpe Oyebade and actor Lateef Adedimeji, have disowned a viral triplets’ photo.

This is coming a week after the couple announced the arrival of their triplets after five years of waiting.

Shortly after the naming ceremony on Thursday, pictures of the couple carrying the triplets surfaced on social media.

Reacting to the circulated photos in an Instagram post on Friday, Bimpe Oyebade tagged the viral pictures as AI-generated, noting that “all the babies pictures flying around aren’t our babies, please.”

She further promised to share photos of their triplets at the appropriate time. “We’ll share @etawithlove pictures soon.”

Also appreciating the public for their love and support, Lateef Adedimeji wrote on X, “Please note that the AI-generated baby photos circulating right now are not ours. Thank you for understanding.”

Nigerian singer Seyi Vibez has hit hard at his colleague, Adekunle Gold, criticising his music and fashion style.

Vibez described Gold as a mediocre artiste with mediocre swag.

“Adekunle Gold, you’re wack, and your swag is wack. Old fool!” he wrote via his X handle on Friday, to the shock of many.

The cause of the outburst is yet to be ascertained. However, some fans are speculating that it could be due to Adekunle Gold’s claim that his “fuji” is more loved than ‘Fuji Moto,’ the title of one of Seyi Vibez’s hit songs, in his new song, ‘Life Of The Faaji.’

“They love my fuji / This one no be fuji moto,” he sings.

Meanwhile, Adekunle Gold is yet to respond to Seyi Vibez’s call-out.
