‘AI is about to retire music producers’ – DJ Neptune predicts

Nigerian disc jockey and record producer, Imohiosen Patrick, known professionally as DJ Neptune, has predicted that Artificial Intelligence, AI, would soon “retire” music producers.

Reckoning with media personality N6, who made a similar prediction, DJ Neptune shared how he wanted to sign an “artiste” after listening to a song recently, only to discover that it was AI.

N6 wrote via X, “AI is Quietly about to retire the entire music production and mastering Industry. I have seen scary tinz tonight. God help all of us in this ecosystem.”

Reacting, DJ Neptune said, “I dey tell you. Someone sent me a record to listen to some days ago and give me my feedback.

“After listening, I told the guy to sign the artist cos what I heard was out of this world. That’s how my guy said na AI work. E shook me o.”

DAILY POST reports that AI is becoming more popular in music-making with both up-and-coming and professional musicians and producers as well as sound engineers incorporating AI tools to enhance beat, sound, and vocals.

Consequently, the recording academy has updated its rules to allow music with AI features to be eligible for the Grammys so long they have enough human contributions.

However, there is a strong debate among industry figures to keep music “human,” arguing that AI leaves questions about authenticity and authorship.

Nigerian music industry divided between Davido, Wizkid loyalists – Omah Lay claims

Afrobeats singer, Omah Stanley Didia, popularly known as Omah Lay, has claimed that the Nigerian music industry is divided between loyalists of Davido on one side and Wizkid’s loyalists on the other side.

The Soso crooner made the claim in a recent interview with American outlet, The Fader.

Omah Lay explained that at a point, he even unfollowed Wizkid, Davido, and Burna Boy, who are widely regarded as the Afrobeats “Big 3,” because he doesn’t like the way they were leading the industry.

“The whole Nigerian Afrobeats scene is very separated. It’s like if you’re with Davido, you’re on one side; if you’re with Wizkid, you’re on the other.

“Back in 2024, I actually unfollowed Burna Boy, Wizkid, and Davido. I felt like they started something with Afrobeats that we needed, but it was an old pattern,” he stated.

On his relationship with Davido, Omah Lay explained that their collaboration on ‘With You’ happened “naturally,” stressing that the process made him “fell in love” with Davido’s personality.

The music star claimed that Davido has “a lot of haters” because he is from a wealthy background.

Omah Lay stated that the DMW boss has “nothing to prove to anybody,” adding that his “driving force” makes him stand out.
