Bayern Munich manager, Vincent Kompany has named Barcelona legend Ronaldinho as the toughest player he ever faced during his playing days as a professional footballer.

Kompany picked Ronaldinho over Al-Nassr’s Cristiano Ronaldo and Inter Miami’s Lionel Messi.

Reflecting on his experiences as a professional footballer, the Belgian said Ronaldinho left a lasting impression on him during one particular game.

Kompany also acknowledged Ronaldo and Messi as the best players, but he reserved special admiration for Ronaldinho.

“There were many, but there was one who impressed me more than any other. It was Ronaldinho, do you know him?” Kompany said (via MARCA) when asked about the toughest player he ever faced.

“Of course, Messi and Ronaldo are incredibly good; they are probably the best players, but from what I saw in one game, it was Ronaldinho.”

Ademola Lookman has said he is not thinking about winning the Most Valuable Player, MVP, or top scorer award at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations, DAILY POST reports.

Lookman has clearly emerged as one of the leading candidates for both awards after impressing in three outings for the Super Eagles in Morocco.

The 28-year-old has already scored three goals and registered five assists for Éric Chelle’s side in the competition.

Only Morocco’s playmaker Brahim Diaz (four) has scored more goals than him at AFCON 2025.

The 28-year-old, however, has more goals involvements than any other player in the competition.

Lookman already earned a place in Group Stage Best X1.

The winger stated that his main focus is for the team to win the title.

“Personally I’m just thinking about the team, now we are in the quarter-finals our next opponent is going to be another strong team. We scored four goals, another big performance for the team so that’s what I care about,” he said after Nigeria’s win against Mozambique.

AFCON 2025: Lookman not interested in individual honours

Super Eagles coach, Eric Chelle, has revealed what he will do if the Nigeria Football Federation, NFF, decides to retain him after the end of the AFCON tournament in Morocco.

Chelle led Nigeria to the semi-final stage before they lost to the host nation, Morocco.

Chelle’s men will take on Egypt on Saturday evening in a third-place playoff.

The Malian, who was appointed in January 2025, said he would bring in new players to the national team if the NFF retains him after the 2025 AFCON.

“If God gives me the chance to be the coach after this tournament, I’ve to bring some players,” Chelle said at his pre-match interview.

“My dream is to have twenty-two players, and all of them can take on the opposition. There is a lot of work to achieve that.”
