
No fewer than 12 persons have reportedly died in a fatal road crash in Edo State.
DAILY POST reports that 14 others sustained varying degrees of injuries.
The spokesperson of the Edo State Command of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Patricia Onwochei, who confirmed the accident, said it happened at the Egono community on the Auchi-Ewu-Benin road.
Onwochei, who attributed the accident to wrongful overtaking, said a truck involved in the crash skidded off the road and fell.
According to her, the truck, conveying passengers and goods and heading towards Benin City, dangerously overtook another vehicle at high speed and, in the process, fell and trapped some of the passengers.
She said 12 persons died, while 14 others sustained injuries in the accident.
She added that one of the deceased was buried, while 11 were deposited at St. Lazarus Hospital mortuary.
DAILY POST gathered from a source that 37 passengers were involved in the accident; 12 died, 14 sustained varying degrees of injuries, while others escaped unhurt.
The source added that the truck was conveying goods and passengers together when the accident happened.
He added that the vehicle fell and trapped most of the victims.
