The Nigeria Police Force has recorded a major breakthrough in its ongoing campaign against kidnapping and violent crimes with the arrest of eight suspected kidnappers during a coordinated security operation in Rukubi community of Nasarawa State.

The operation was launched following a distress report received in the early hours of Wednesday after armed men reportedly invaded the community on Tuesday night, firing gunshots sporadically and creating panic among residents.

According to the Force Public Relations Officer, Anthony Okon Placid, the attackers allegedly stormed the residences of two villagers and abducted two persons before escaping to an unknown destination.

He disclosed that operatives of the Nasarawa State Police Command, in collaboration with other security agencies, vigilante groups, and local youths, immediately mobilised to the area and launched an intensive manhunt that resulted in the arrest of eight suspects linked to the attack.

The suspects were identified as Adamu Alfa, Muhammed Alfa, Shuaibu Alfa, Usman Alfa, Ali Alfa, Isa Alfa, another Adamu Alfa, and Ja’afaru Alfa, all said to be from Rugan Alhaji Alfa in Rukubi Village.

During the operation, security operatives recovered two AK-47 rifles, four Bajaj motorcycles, and two expended 7.62mm ammunition shells believed to have been used during the attack.

Police authorities also confirmed that one of the suspects sustained serious injuries during the operation and was later confirmed dead while receiving treatment at a medical facility.

Reacting to the development, the Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Rilwan Disu, praised the operatives for their professionalism, courage, and swift response.

“The success recorded in this operation is a clear demonstration of the effectiveness of intelligence-driven policing and the strong collaboration among security agencies and community stakeholders in tackling violent crimes,” the Force spokesman said.

The police further commended the support provided by local vigilante groups, community youths, and residents, noting that their cooperation played a vital role in the success of the operation.
