The Lagos State Police Command has arrested 10 suspects in connection with the violence that disrupted the All Progressives Congress, APC, primary election in the Egbe area of Alimosho Local Government Area.
The disturbance occurred on Saturday at Onilewura Street, along Liasu Road, when suspected hoodlums reportedly invaded the venue of the primary election and fired sporadically, creating panic among party members and residents.
The attack disrupted the electoral process, forcing voters, party officials and other participants to flee the scene for safety.
Several individuals were said to have sustained injuries during the incident, while the suspects allegedly exploited the confusion to rob attendees and residents of mobile phones and other valuables.
Confirming the development, the Deputy Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Femi Adeoye, dismissed reports alleging loss of lives during the attack, stating that no fatality was recorded.
He disclosed that the arrested suspects had been taken into custody at the Ikotun Divisional Police Station, where further investigation is ongoing.
According to him, security operatives also recovered a locally fabricated firearm from the suspects during the operation.
“The hoodlums responsible for the disturbance have been arrested and taken to Ikotun Divisional Police Station. A gun was also recovered from them,” he said.
Adeoye assured residents and APC supporters that the police would conduct a thorough investigation to identify those behind the attack and determine the motive for the violence.
He added that anyone found culpable would be prosecuted in accordance with the law.
The police spokesperson also appealed to residents to remain calm and support security agencies with credible information that could aid the ongoing investigation.
