Reports indicate that the incident occurred as some residents were travelling from Ogbe to Egbe to attend a wedding ceremony of an Ogbe indigene based in Egbe, Kogi.
The ministry, alongside the Nigerian Railway Corporation, also expressed its regret over the disaster, while sympathising with the victims’ families.
