Many injured as vehicle crashes into tricycles in Lagos

Several commuters sustained injuries on Monday morning after a Honda vehicle rammed into two commercial tricycles at the Federal Bus Stop along Ipaja Road in Lagos State.

It was gathered that the crash occurred at about 8:50 a.m and involved a Honda car bearing registration number KTU 921 JY.

Eyewitnesses said approximately 10 passengers suffered varying degrees of injuries as a result of the collision.

According to accounts from the scene, the female driver of the Honda vehicle was allegedly driving at high speed when she attempted to avoid hitting a street sweeper attached to the Lagos Waste Management Authority, LAWMA.

Witnesses alleged that the driver struck the sweeper before losing control of the vehicle, which reportedly crossed to the opposite lane and crashed into two commercial tricycles.

Some of the victims were said to have sustained serious injuries, while others escaped with minor wounds.

A correspondent who visited the scene gathered that the injured passengers were first taken to a nearby private medical facility for emergency treatment before some of them were later transferred to the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital for further care.

Operatives of the Nigeria Police Force from the Gowon Divisional Headquarters, officials of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority, LASTMA, and neighbourhood security personnel were seen at the scene coordinating rescue efforts and controlling traffic flow.

As of the time this report was filed, authorities had yet to release an official statement regarding the accident.
