Makinde warns traditional rulers against partisan politics

The presidential candidate of the Allied Peoples Movement, APM, and Governor of Oyo State, Seyi Makinde, has advised traditional rulers in the state to steer clear of partisan politics.
Makinde, who spoke on Saturday, urged traditional rulers across the state to remain politically neutral.
He made the remarks during the conferment of an honorary traditional title on him by the Eleruwa of Eruwa, Oba Samuel Adegbola.
The event was held in Eruwa, in the Ibarapa geopolitical zone of the state.
Addressing the gathering, Makinde explained that traditional rulers who openly support political parties or candidates risk exposing themselves to avoidable political attacks.
He also said he was ready to intensify nationwide consultations in furtherance of his presidential ambition.
Makinde stated that traditional rulers must remain accessible to all political actors seeking their royal blessings rather than openly endorsing candidates contesting elections.
He said: “Traditional rulers across the state must remain politically neutral. Monarchs who openly support political parties or candidates risk exposing themselves to avoidable political attacks.
“Traditional rulers must remain accessible to all political actors seeking royal blessings rather than openly endorsing any candidate.”
