The Lagos State Government has sealed off Dominion Pizza in the Lekki area over alleged environmental violations linked to the discharge of untreated sewage into public drainage channels.
The enforcement exercise was carried out by the Lagos State Wastewater Management Office, LSWMO, following a complaint lodged by a resident and subsequent investigations by environmental authorities.
The Commissioner for Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab, said findings showed that wastewater from the restaurant’s septic system was being improperly discharged into the surrounding environment due to an overflowed septic tank.
According to him, the situation resulted in environmental pollution, foul odour, and posed potential health risks to residents and other members of the public in the area.
In a post on X on Tuesday, Wahab explained that the enforcement action was part of the state’s ongoing environmental compliance drive aimed at strengthening sanitation standards and ensuring adherence to wastewater management regulations across Lagos.
He reaffirmed the government’s zero-tolerance policy towards environmental infractions, warning that individuals and organisations found guilty of breaching sanitation laws would face appropriate sanctions, including possible prosecution.
The commissioner also advised residents, business operators and property owners to ensure proper wastewater management practices to safeguard public health and protect the environment.
Residents were further encouraged to report environmental violations through official channels provided by the Lagos State Wastewater Management Office.
