Singer May D, a former signee of P-Square’s record label, Square Records, has reacted to the Okoye family controversy.
DAILY POST recalls that a Nigerian music duo composed of twin brothers, Peter Okoye and Paul Okoye, co-founded Square Records label, which was managed by their elder brother, Jude Okoye, in 2005.
In 2017, P-Square disbanded after Peter announced a split over a series of financial and management disputes involving Jude and Paul.
During the incident, Peter pursued a solo career as Mr. P, while Paul went by Rudeboy.
The duo reconciled in November 2021 and parted ways again in 2024 due to renewed internal conflicts and legal disputes after Peter alleged that his twin and their elder brother diverted the group’s royalty to a company account co-owned by Jude and his wife.
The dispute intensified after Paul shaded Peter amid public backslash.
In response, Peter accused Paul of always joining popular trends to pull him down.
The altercation further led to Peter making a series of allegations and new revelations against Jude and Paul.
Reacting to the new revelations of how the two brothers allegedly cheated and maltreated Peter, many Nigerians, including celebrities, rallied support for him and called on the public to stream his songs.
Speaking on the matter, May D announced plans to share his side of the story about what transpired between him and the family.
He wrote on his Instagram story on Friday with a laughing emoji, “Mr May D Part 1 coming soon.”
DAILY POST reports that May D was signed to Square Records in 2011 and officially left in 2012 after the label cited irreconcilable differences in a statement.
