MultiChoice, parent company of DStv and GOtv, has revealed plans to shut down its streaming platform Showmax after more than a decade of operation.

In a message to customers dated March 5, the company said the move follows a strategic review aimed at strengthening its overall digital offerings and ensuring long-term sustainability amid growing competition in the streaming sector.

Originally launched in South Africa in 2015, Showmax expanded over the years to serve audiences across multiple African countries.

While MultiChoice has not confirmed a specific shutdown date, it assures subscribers that the service will continue operating for the time being, with no immediate action required.

Parts of the message read: “Following a comprehensive review, the Showmax Board has taken the decision to discontinue the Showmax service in the near future.

“We understand that this news may raise questions. Showmax subscribers are a priority for us, and we are working on plans to ensure clear communication and a smooth transition when the time comes.”

The company also promised to share detailed information on timelines and the transition process well ahead of the closure.

“We will share further details well in advance, including timelines and any future steps, should they be required.”

MultiChoice emphasized that protecting the customer experience is a top priority.

“Streaming remains central to our strategy. We will continue to invest in premium content, technology innovation and partnerships to deliver the best possible entertainment experience to our customers,” it added.

The announcement comes shortly after the approval of Canal+’s acquisition of MultiChoice, though the company has yet to provide details on potential impacts for employees or alternatives for current Showmax users.

Pastor Chris Okafor of Mountain of Liberty and Miracle Ministry, has recanted the apology he earlier issued to actress Doris Ogala for his years-long secret romance with her.

DAILY POST reports that the actress called out the clergyman last year for dumping her after promising her marriage in their eight years of sexual relationship.

The saga broke out after a video clip of the clergyman engaging a young lady surfaced on social media.

Doris Ogala, who demanded compensation, further accused the cleric of involvement in scandalous and criminal activities.

Amid the controversy, Okafor gave the actress $10,000, which she said was too small compared to the evidence she has against him.

Following the development, Okafor during a Sunday service, tendered an open apology to Doris Ogala and begged her and other women he had hurt for forgiveness.

DAILY POST reports that despite the apology, the actress continues to drag Okafor.

However in a new development, Chris Okafor made U-turn and withdrew his apology, claiming that he apologized to her due to pressure from those around him.

While referring to her as Jezebel, Okafor in a now trending video on social media, told his congregation that he will resolve the matter legally.

“There’s no apology for what I didn’t do or for someone I haven’t met face to face. I was pressured by people I called friends but who are not.

“Firstly, the reason why I apologised was that the fathers of faith were being dragged. And I did not want them to be dragged. Pastor Bishop Abioye, and Matthew,” he said.

Revealing why he went on his knees to apologise to her, he said “I knelt down because of those fathers. Not because of any Jezebel anywhere.”

Recall that Okafor’s second daughter, Amara alleged plan to press charges against him for assault and abuse.

Nollywood actor-turned-politician, Olumide Oworu, has said one of the reasons for the widespread corruption among Nigerian politicians is because they see politics as a career rather than as a medium of service.

Speaking in a recent episode of The Clarity Zone podcast, the movie star argued that ideally, politics is supposed to be about creating systems that service the needs of the people.

He noted that a lot of Nigerian politicians chase after self-aggrandisement because they don’t have any other means of livelihood aside politics.

He added that the political apathy among the youth is caused by the brand of “dirty politics” practiced in Nigeria.

Oworu said, “Politics is two things – systems and service. I think the type of politics and the idea of who a politician is, is why a lot of young people shy from away from it. Because they think it is dirty and for the unexposed.

“But on the contrary, it is for the people that are learned and well-travelled; the people that have a means. Politics is not supposed to be a career. But it is for a lot of people in Nigeria and that is the issue.

“We have career politicians and that is the problem. Because you are going to do whatever it takes to get into office, because you have no plan B. The entirety of your existence is hinged on getting in to this office. The life that you envisioned for yourself and family is tied to whether you get into office or not. Which is also why you need a godfather because you are willing to do whatever it takes to get into the office. You are bringing almost not value to the table.

“I don’t think that godfatherism should be in politics but sadly, a lot of politicians have godfathers because of the style of politics we practice. We need to change that. What should matter should be capacity.”

Peggy Ovire, a popular Nigerian actress, has finally reacted to speculation about her alleged romance with actor Kachi Nnochiri.

This comes a few weeks after Peggy’s separation from her husband, actor Fredrick Leonard.

However, during a recent event, Peggy and Kachi were seen in matching outfits, holding each other as they walked into the venue.

The trending clip sparked romance speculation, with many criticising the Nollywood star for moving on too quickly from her husband.

Reacting to the viral clip on Instagram, Peggy disclosed Kachi’s marital status.

Explaining why he was holding her arm, Peggy wrote, “Kachi is happily married, una don start. He was helping me because of my heels.”

Nollywood actor, Yul Edochie, has publicly criticised Arise Television anchor, Rufai Oseni in a viral video circulating on social media.

In the clip, Edochie questioned Oseni’s moral authority to challenge political leaders and guests on national television, referencing a past incident in Lagos where the broadcaster was reportedly caught driving on a Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) lane.

“Is this not the same Rufai Oseni that was caught driving on BRT lane?” Edochie asked.

“When officials caught you, instead of apologising, you were shouting, ‘Do you know who I am? I’m going to call the governor of Lagos State.’”

He alleged that Oseni only apologised after a video of the incident surfaced online.

“If not because somebody had a video, you could not even apologise. If there was no video, what would have happened?” he said.

The actor also accused the Arise TV presenter of being disrespectful to guests during interviews.

“How can you invite somebody and make the guest uncomfortable?” Edochie queried.

“If a guest is not comfortable, the first thing you do is apologise and make the guest feel at ease. How can you tell a guest that if they’re not comfortable, they are free to walk out of the studio?”

Edochie further criticised what he described as Oseni’s confrontational approach on television.

“You are insulting people on national TV. You’re a very disrespectful person. That is not journalism,” he said.

Defending President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Edochie urged critics to accord the President respect and give his administration more time.

“Jagaban President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is the President of Nigeria, whether you like it or not. He is our President, you must respect him,” he stated. “The man just came in. Give him time. Rome was not built in a day.”

Nollywood actress, Annie Macaulay has said she is not a single mother despite her separation from her estranged husband, singer 2Face Idibia.

The movie star argued that she considers herself as a single woman raising two kids and not a single mom.

On her Instagram page, she wrote: “I’m not a single mom. I’m a single woman raising two kids.”
DAILY POST recalls that 2Fce announced on Instagram in late January 2025 that he is separating from his wife, Annie Idibia, and initiating divorce proceedings.

He stated that the marriage had not been working for a long time.

Weeks later, he unveiled Edo State lawmaker Natasha Osawuru as his new lover.

Following 2Face’s announcement, Annie removed his surname from her social media handles but later reverted to it.

The couple got married in 2012 and had two children together. They faced intense public scrutiny and personal challenges throughout their 13-year relationship.

Annie is currently responsible for the custody of their two daughters, Isabella and Olivia Idibia.

Veteran Nigerian actor Francis Odega has said that the quality of Nollywood movies has drastically reduced over the years.

Speaking in a recent episode of ‘Where Is The Lie’ podcast, Odega claimed that Nollywood during his days was better than Nollywood of today.

He explained that back when he and his contemporaries held sway, Nollywood used to make unforgettable movies but nowadays, Nollywood movies are mostly bad.

“Back then, one script would give us one unforgettable movie. But now, one script can give you seven bad movies, and that’s not right. Nollywood back then, is far better than the Nollywood of today,” the actor said.

Odega stated that he was one of the pioneers of Nollywood, stressing that he was in the movie industry before Nollywood became big.

“I was among of the people who made Nollywood. When we started, Nollywood was just a phenomenon. Our organisation used to be called Nigerian Actors Guild, NAG, before we later changed it to Actors’ Guild Of Nigeria, AGN.

“It was after then that Nollywood came. So, I am one of the pioneers of Nollywood. I have been in the movie industry for 30 years,” he explained.

Public affairs analyst and activist, Blessing Akinlosotu, has urged the Nigerian Communications Commission, NCC, and Nigerian Broadcasting Commission, NBC, to pay attention to social media content creators to guard against abuse.

Akinlosotu made the call in a statement on Tuesday.

She was reacting to the controversy surrounding President Bola Tinubu’s son, Seyi, social commentator Martins Otse, known as VeryDarkMan, and content creator Mitchel Mukoro, known as King Mitchy.

DAILY POST reports that VeryDarkMan had alleged that Seyi Tinubu and King Mitchy threatened to his life over his remarks on the N100 million donation.

However, Seyi Tinubu dismissed VDM’s claim in a lengthy statement at the weekend.

The feud took another dimension after a report alleged that King Mitchy attempted to take her life.

Reacting to the controversy involving the trio, Akinlosotu noted it was needless for VDM to drag Seyi Tinubu into the matter.

She also condemned King Mitchy for attempting to take her life.

“I call on the Nigeria Communication Commission, the Nigerian Broadcasting Commission and other regulatory agencies to start paying closer and more serious attention to content being generated and churned out on a daily basis by creators across the federation through media.

“There must be strong sanctions, and some persons must be made scapegoats as a way of deterrence.”

The Medical and Dental Practitioners Investigation Panel has suspended Dr. Tunde Majekodunmi, Medical Director of Euracare Multi-Specialist Hospital, and two other doctors following findings of medical negligence in the treatment of 21-month-old Nkanu Adichie-Esege.

DAILY POST recalls that the tragic death of one of the twin sons of renowned author Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie and her husband, Ivara Esege, occurred on Wednesday, January 7, 2026, following a brief illness.

Recounting the heartbreaking incident, Adichie, in a statement on Saturday, January 10, 2026 alleged medical negligence surrounding her son’s death.

She explained that her son was taken to Euracare Hospital in Lagos for an MRI scan and the insertion of a central line after initially developing what they thought was a common cold, which later “turned into a very serious infection.”

During the procedure, Nkanu was sedated but was reportedly not properly monitored after receiving propofol, resulting in complications including loss of responsiveness, seizures, and cardiac arrest.

Adichie stated, “He would be alive today if not for an incident at Euracare Hospital on January 6th,” where he had been taken for medical procedures.

The Medical and Dental Practitioners Investigation Panel was subsequently constituted to look into the incident.

Following the panel’s investigation, the medical director of Euracare, Majekodunmi, and the hospital’s anesthesiologist, Dr. Titus Ogundare, as well as the Chief Medical Officer at Atlantis Pediatric Hospital, Dr. Atinuke Uwajeh, were suspended.

The trio will remain barred from practicing medicine in Nigeria until their cases are determined by the Medical and Dental Practitioners Disciplinary Tribunal.

In addition, the panel found a prima facie case of professional misconduct against 10 other doctors, including Dr. Adeseye Akinsete, Dr. Chidinma Ohagwu, Dr. Anthony Ajeh, Dr. Amarachi Bayo, Dr. Nkechi Peji, Dr. Olaoye Oludare, Dr. Agaja Oyinkansola, Dr. Patricia Akintan, Dr. Babatunde Bamgboye, and Dr. Raji Faidat.

Eight other doctors were cleared of any wrongdoing.

The panel reached these decisions after reviewing complaints against all 21 doctors, examining their counter-affidavits, and considering their oral depositions on oath.

The investigation concluded during the panel’s 25th session in Abuja on February 17 and 18, 2026.

Ace producer and music executive, Osabuohien Osaretin, popularly known as Sarz, has spoken extensively about the negative impacts of poor infrastructures, especially epileptic electricity supply, on the creative industry in Nigeria.

Appearing in a recent episode of the Afropolitan podcast, Sarz explained that unavailability of electricity at the time creatives are inspired could lead to waste of potentials.

The 36-year-old emphasised that despite being born and raised in Nigeria, he has never experienced electricity for 24 hours in the country.

“I was born and raised in this country and I have never experienced electricity for 24 hours. There are times when I wake up feeling inspired and I want to create music but there is not light. Sometimes, even when you want to buy fuel, they will tell that there is a strike or scarcity. And then you end up doing not nothing and the potential just waste,” he said.

“As a creative person, you need to be mentally charged to perform at your best. So, when the infrastructure is lacking the moment you are mentally charged, it is a challenge,” Sarz added.

The producer emphasised that infrastructure is very vital for the entertainment industry to thrive, stressing that the Nigerian entertainment industry is limited by lack of infrastructure.
