The Commissioner of Police in Sokoto State, Hayyatu Shafa, has said the command will prioritise tackling terrorism, banditry, and kidnapping in the state.
Shafa made this known during his assumption of duty at the State Command headquarters on Monday.
“The first duty of government is to maintain law and order so that the life, property, and religious beliefs of citizens are fully protected,” he said.
He noted that insecurity in the state has led to loss of lives, displacement of communities, and disruption of economic activities.
The commissioner said the command would adopt intelligence-led policing, strengthen community engagement, and enhance collaboration with other security agencies to address the challenges.
“We will intensify intelligence gathering and leverage modern tools to anticipate and disrupt criminal activities,” he added.
He also said efforts would be made to improve cooperation with residents and security agencies, including the military and other relevant institutions.
Shafa said the command would increase patrols, carry out targeted operations, and implement measures to protect vulnerable groups.
