The Nigeria Football Referees’ Association, NFRA, has urged Nigeria Premier Football League, NPFL, arbiters to strictly adhere to the laws of the game as the new season begins.
NFRA Acting President Sir Kelechi Mejuobi made the call in a message to match officials ahead of the 2026-27 NPFL campaign.
Mejuobi said a correct understanding and application of the laws is key to moving the domestic league forward.
“With the desire to reform Nigeria football and place it properly, especially now we have a title sponsor, what is expected of us is to officiate in accordance with the laws of the game and adhere to competition rules,” Mejuobi stated in his message.
“Our job is to officiate without fear or favour, as long as it equates to what the 17 Laws of the Game say.
“And respect the competition rules to ensure our actions are in tandem with the desire of the league organisers.”
Mejuobi revealed that referees and accompanying assessors have been trained and mentally equipped to deliver on the association’s mandate.
He also warned unauthorised persons to stay away from restricted areas.
“Those not authorized to gain access into dressing rooms of referees and tunnels should avoid such places before, during and after the game,” he said.
