Tinubu appoints new CAC chairman, nominates seven NPC commissioners
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has appointed Ibrahim Ida as the Chairman of the Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC) and nominated seven individuals to fill vacant commissioner positions at the National Population Commission (NPC).
The appointments were disclosed in a statement on Monday by the President’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga.
According to the statement, “the nominations for the National Population Commission are subject to confirmation by the National Assembly.”
Ibrahim Ida, who hails from Katsina State, holds a master’s degree in banking and finance from the University of Ibadan (1983) and a Bachelor of Laws (LLB) from the University of Abuja (2003).
He previously served as the Commissioner of Finance for Katsina State and as a Permanent Secretary in the Federal Civil Service before his election to the Senate in 2017 to represent Katsina Central.
In addition, President Tinubu also appointed Yusuf Mohammed from Kano State as Chairman of the Federal Polytechnic, Kaltungo.
The president further confirmed the appointment of Bala Bello as Special Adviser on Political Economy.
Bello, a resident of Kebbi State, holds a Bachelor’s degree in Accounting and a Master of Business Administration (MBA) from Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria.
Before this appointment, he served as a deputy governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN).
He also worked as Executive Director (Corporate Services) at the Nigerian Export-Import Bank between 2017 and 2022.
The presidency expressed confidence in the capacity of the newly appointed officials to contribute meaningfully to the administration’s objectives.
“President Tinubu strongly believes in the capacities of the appointees to put in their best to further the administration’s commitment to a better lease of life for Nigerians,” the statement said.

The Christian Association of Nigeria, CAN, has condemned, in the strongest possible terms, the horrific attack that took place on Palm Sunday, March 29, 2026.
The attack happened in the Angwan Rukuba, Gari Ya Waye area of Jos North, Plateau State.
CAN noted that Palm Sunday is meant to be a day of peace, hope, and reflection, but instead it became a day of bloodshed for the people of Nigeria.
DAILY POST reports that innocent Nigerians, men, women, and children, were hunted and killed in cold blood. CAN added, “Let us be clear: this is not just tragic; it is unacceptable.”
Armed men, reportedly in significant numbers, moved into a civilian community disguised in uniforms resembling those of security forces and opened fire on defenceless people.
Lives were cut short in minutes. Families have been shattered. A community has been traumatised.
“We mourn. We grieve. But we must also speak the truth. How did we get here? How is it that people can no longer feel safe in their own homes? How is it that, even on a sacred day, communities are left exposed to such terror?” a statement signed by Archbishop Daniel Okoh, CAN President, said.
It added, “Nigerians are tired of mourning. Nigerians are tired of statements. Nigerians want to see action. Those responsible for this atrocity must be found, arrested, and made to face justice swiftly and decisively. Anything less will only deepen the sense that life in our country is no longer protected.
“The use of fake or imitation military uniforms by these attackers is particularly alarming. It strikes at the very heart of public trust and must be thoroughly investigated. Our security institutions must not only respond; they must stay ahead of these threats.
“We acknowledge the efforts of the Plateau State Government so far. But let it be said clearly: temporary measures are not enough. The people of Plateau, and indeed all Nigerians, deserve lasting security, not periodic reassurance.
“To our Christian faithful across the nation, I speak to you as we walk through this solemn Holy Week. Be prayerful, but also be vigilant. As you prepare for Good Friday solemnities and the Stations of the Cross (in some denominations), and as churches gather for Easter Eve vigils and night services, take deliberate steps to protect yourselves and your congregations. Stay alert. Work with security agencies and local authorities. Look out for one another.
“Faith must remain strong, but it must also be paired with wisdom. We will not allow fear to silence our worship. But neither will we ignore the dangers around us. Holy Week reminds us that light will always overcome darkness. Yet, let us be honest, Nigeria is passing through a dark and painful moment. This must be a turning point.
“A nation cannot keep bleeding like this and expect to move forward. We owe the dead justice. We owe the living protection. And we owe our future a country where no community wakes up to gunfire on a sacred day.”

Kebbi PDP secretary, Abubakar Bawa resigns amid political realignments
The Secretary of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in Kebbi State, Abubakar Bawa, has officially resigned from the party, with immediate effect.
Bawa submitted his resignation in a letter dated March 30 to the Ward Chairman of Kalgo Ward in Kalgo Local Government Area.
In the letter, he expressed gratitude to the party for the opportunity to serve and acknowledged the support he received during his tenure.
“I thank the party for the platform given to me to contribute my quota and wish the PDP continued success and progress,” he stated.
The resignation has attracted political attention within the Kebbi PDP, particularly amid subtle realignments ahead of the 2027 general elections.

2026 World Cup: Ancelotti warns Brazil, predicts team to win trophy

‘Nigerians not angry enough over insecurity’ – Paul Okoye, Mr Macaroni, Kunle Remi
A cross section of Nigerian celebrities have spoken out against the escalating insecurity in the country.
Singer and half of P-Square duo, Paul Okoye, popularly known as Rudeboy, while reacting to the attack on Christians on Palm Sunday in Jos, Plateau State, where he was born, said Nigerian are not angry enough over the insecurity in the country.
On his X handle, he wrote, “We are not Angry enough !!!
May be na until God come down for earth.”
On his part, comedian and activist Mr Macaroni accused the President Bola Tinubu administration of being “incompetent and irresponsible”.
He claimed that the President is “running the most useless government in the history of useless governments,” stressing that Nigerians “wake up everyday to lament one tragedy of the other.”
In another X post, Mr Macaroni said he can’t fathom why the President hasn’t address the nation even after “40 Nigerians have been confirmed dead” in Sunday’s terrorists’ attack in Jos.
He added that the current administration has zero sense of accountability and responsibility.
Similarly, actor Kunle Remi has urged Nigerians to tag pictures and videos of the insecurity and hardship in Nigeria in their birthday messages to President Tinubu, who recently turned 74.
Speaking in a video broadcast, the movie star said, “There is a video of a woman in pain crying over the loss of someone, that is the image we should use if you want to wish President Tinubu a happy birthday. 15 hours ago there was a disaster in Plateau, that is the celebratory image we should use. Thank you. Happy birthday, Mr President.”
