Paul Onuachu believes the Super Eagles have the quality to beat any team in the World Cup, DAILY POST reports.

Éric Chelle’s side is in Warsaw for tonight’s international friendly against Poland.

The West Africans will also line up against a star-studded Portuguese side next weekend Wednesday in Lierra.

The Super Eagles successfully defended their Unity Cup title last weekend, further highlighting the impressive progress they have made under head coach Eric Chelle.

Onuachu is optimistic they can build on recent impressive performances.

“We have the quality to play against any team in the world and hopefully we are going to show it against Poland and Portugal, Onuachu told the Super Eagles media.

“Sadly we are not going to the World Cup because we have world-class players, but that’s football.”

FC Basel winger Philip Otele has arrived the Super Eagles camp in Warsaw for the international friendly against Poland, DAILY POST reports.

Otele’s arrival increased the number of players at head coach Éric Chelle’s disposal to 21.

The 27-year-old featured in Super Eagles’ two games at the Unity Cup invitational tournament last week.

The winger contributed an assist in Nigeria’s 3-0 final victory over the Reggae Boyz of Jamaica.

Otele is expected to be named among the substitutes against Poland due to his late arrival in camp.

He has been capped three times by Nigeria following his debut against Jordan in March.

Argentina icon Angel Di Maria has identified the favourites to win the 2026 FIFA World Cup this summer.

The recently retired Argentina player was instrumental in leading the Albiceleste to victory in the 2022 FIFA World Cup.

In an interview with Ballon d’Or, Di Maria shared his predictions for the tournament.

He stated that France is likely to be among the favorites due to their exceptional talent, and he also mentioned Spain as a possible contender.

Additionally, he highlighted the team of his former teammate Cristiano Ronaldo, Portugal, as one to watch in the World Cup.

He said, “Recently, several teams have entered the fray thanks to emerging players… France is a strong contender because they consistently produce top talent and maintain a high standard.

“I believe Spain could also establish themselves; they are performing well, although we will need to monitor the status of some injured players.

“Portugal is another team with quality players… With João Neves and Vitinha, who add a unique flair to the game and can make a significant impact. There are three or four teams that will be in the running.”

Manchester United on Wednesday confirmed that striker Rasmus Hojlund has joined Napoli on a permanent transfer.

Hojlund spent last season on loan at the Serie A club, scoring 16 goals in 44 games across all competitions.

However, the Denmark international has now permanently joined the Neapolitans.

“Everyone at the club would like to wish Rasmus all the very best for the future,” Man United’s statement partly read.

Meanwhile, in another development, RB Leipzig teenager Yan Diomande has emerged as a frontrunner to replace Mohamed Salah at Liverpool, The Sun reports.

Recall that Salah left Liverpool at the end of the season, and the Reds are looking for his replacement.

Diomande has only been in Germany for less than a year but has impressed in the Bundesliga so much to get on the radar of several Premier League clubs.

The 19-year-old scored 12 goals in the league this past season.

Super Eagles captain Wilfred Ndidi has said  the team want to maintain their winning run  when they take on Poland in tonight’s friendly, DAILY POST reports.

Éric Chelle’s side are on a five-game winning streak.

The West Africans have won four and drawn one of their last five matches.

Ndidi said even though the Super Eagles want to build a solid team for the future, it is important to maintain their impressive run.

“Of course it’s about winning, but development also counts. A match against such a top rival as Poland will be a good test for our vision for the future,” Ndidi was quoted by przegladsportowy.onet.

The encounter slated for the PGE Narodowy Stadium, Warsaw, will kick-off at 7.45pm Nigeria time.

Super Eagles coach, Eric Chelle, has said that Nigeria has “a lot of good players” to rely on, despite the absence of star forwards Victor Osimhen and Ademola Lookman ahead of the team’s international friendly against Poland on Wednesday.

Chelle had already confirmed that Osimhen and Lookman will miss the encounter.

The Malian stated this after Nigeria’s 3-0 victory over Jamaica in the final of the Unity Cup tournament in London at the weekend.

Speaking during his pre-match press conference in Warsaw on Tuesday, Chelle said, “I have made a few decisions that I wouldn’t like to elaborate on publicly.

“However, we have a lot of good players who will certainly fill in well for those absent.”

Former Turkish referee, Ahmed Çakar, has advised Galatasaray to sell their top striker, Victor Osimhen, if they receive an offer of 130 million Euros for his signature.

Çakar believes the Turkish Super Lig champion would make a profit because they bought the Nigerian international for 75 million Euros from Napoli.

Osimhen has been heavily linked with a move away from Galatasaray this summer.

The 27-year-old recently dismissed reports of him leaving Galatasaray this summer amid links from Chelsea, Man United, Barcelona, Bayern Munich and Real Madrid.

Speaking about Osimhen’s future on the Libero TV YouTube channel, as per Habersarikirmizi, Çakar said, “There is no football player in the world who cannot be sold. Osimhen cost Galatasaray around 75 million Euros.

“If they sell him for 90 or 100 million Euros, I would say, ‘You made a mistake.’ I would say ‘You’re fools if you’re offered 130 million Euros and don’t sell him.’ Because you make a profit, and you also get to use him for a year after acquiring his transfer rights. Then it’s fine.”

Super Eagles head coach Éric Chelle has reiterated his team’s desire to extend their unbeaten streak when they take on Poland in a friendly on Wednesday.

The former African champions are unbeaten in their last five games.

Chelle’s side last tasted defeat in the semi-final of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations, when they lost to hosts Morocco on penalities.

Ahead of the clash with Poland, slated for the 58,000-capacity PGE Narodowy Stadium in Warsaw., the Malian stated that his team will go all out for a win.

“Now, we have a team and we are preparing to go out there and win. Winning is the mentality that we are trying to create in the team, in the players. We will go for a win on Wednesday,” Chelle told thenff.com.

The game will kick-off at 7.45pm Nigeria time.

Friendly: Chelle upbeat Super Eagles will beat Poland 

Argentina head coach, Lionel Scaloni, has named ten favourite countries that can win the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

Argentina is the reigning world champions and will begin their title defence on June 16.

However, Scaloni believes his team, alongside the likes of Spain, France, England, Brazil, Portugal, Uruguay, and Colombia, Croatia and Morocco, are favourites to win the competition.

Speaking during an interview with Diario Ole (via MARCA), Scaloni stated:
“10? I don’t know if I fell short. Yes, because in a World Cup, of course, Argentina is going to be there.

“I don’t know if they are going to win, but those ten or twelve are going to fight and try to reach the final.

“Spain, France, Portugal, England, Brazil, Colombia, Uruguay, Argentina, Morocco… I don’t even know how many I named, I’m already forgetting one, Croatia,” he said.

Marco Silva has left Fulham to become the new manager at Benfica.

The 48-year-old will replace Jose Mourinho, who is set to take over at Real Madrid.

Silva has agreed a three-year contract with the option for an extra year with the Lisbon club.
