Akwa United head coach, Paul Offor, has charged his players to remain focused ahead of the remaining fixtures in the Nigeria National League, NNL, this season

The young tactician gave the charge after the team’s final training session before departing for Osogbo.

The Promise Keepers will lock horns with Osun United in a matchday 13 fixture at the Landeleke Township Stadium in Ilesa on Saturday.

Offor emphasized the importance of approaching each game with a winning mentality.

“The remaining six matches are very crucial for us and we cannot afford to be complacent, We must remain focused and ensure we make the most of our chances,” Offor told the club’s media.

“We are not yet where we want to be, and we have to sustain our current momentum by showing consistency in our performance.

“We have reached a stage in our campaign where we must approach every match like a cup final.

“We cannot gamble with our chances. We must be fully prepared to fight and win together because our objective is to finish the season strongly.”

NNL: Offor tasks Akwa United players on promotion chase

Christantus Uche will return to Getafe this summer after the completion of his loan stint with Crystal Palace.

Uche, who moved to the Selhurst Park on loan last summer, has struggled for regular playing time at club.

The attacking midfielder would have had to start 10 Premier League matches for the obligatory option to be triggered.

The Nigeria international is however yet to start a league game for Palace.

Uche has made 14 league appearances for the Eagles, all as a substitute.

Getafe will need to sell him to ease their financial pressure.

Evra was speaking to Stake following the latest midweek fixtures.

The Gunners currently sit seven points above second-placed Manchester City on the table.

Evra said: Man City’s draw against Nottingham Forest is a big boost, and even if Brighton had lots of chances, Arsenal won.

“This is a sign of a Premier League winner.

“It was a good chance for Man City to keep the gap close, I don’t think it’s over but that win against Brighton was big for Arsenal.

“I want Arsenal to win the league, I just hope they don’t bottle it again.

“People like the joke I made about calling them Netflix, we always have to wait for next season. Come on Arsenal, you can do it this year, but I wouldn’t be surprised if they bottle it again.”

Former Nigeria head coach, Sunday Oliseh has urged Victor Osimhen and Ademola Lookman to lead the Super Eagles to win titles in the near future.

Oliseh praised the pair as ‘top’ talents, noting their impressive performances in the Champions League with Galatasaray and Atletico Madrid, respectively.

In a recent episode of his Global Football Insights Podcast, the ex-Juventus midfielder said, “We have two top Nigerian players currently excelling in the Champions League.

“Osimhen is doing well, and Lookman is also doing exceptionally well.

“All we [Nigeria] need now is for these two top players to lead the team *[Super Eagles] and for the others to follow, and you will have it.”

Both Lookman and Osimhen played key roles in securing a bronze medal for the Super Eagles during the 2025 AFCON tournament in Morocco.

Fulham attacking midfielder, Alex Iwobi has shared the most impactful advice he ever received came from Nigerian football icon Jay-Jay Okocha, who also happens to be his uncle.

According to the 29-year-old, Okocha advised him to play against the opponent on the pitch of play with freedom and without fear throughout his professional career.

Iwobi, a former Arsenal player, stated this while speaking in a recent interview on The High Performance Podcast.

“He [Okocha] said to me, express yourself. Don’t be afraid to express yourself.

“I got it from my uncle, Jay-Jay Okocha. He said it to me once, and I literally just watched how he lived his life.

“I feel lucky he is my uncle. I used to see him both off the pitch as well as on the pitch.”

Coventry City head coach, Frank Lampard has provided a fitness update on Frank Onyeka ahead of his side’s trip to Bristol City on Saturday.

Onyeka picked up a knock in the Sky Blues 2-1 win over Stoke City at the CBS Arena last weekend.

The Nigeria international was replaced by Victor Torp 10 minutes after the break.

Lampard said after the game that the defensive midfielder is battling with fatigue.

The former England international revealed that the 28-year-old has not trained much this week.

“He (Onyeka) hasn’t trained much this week but he’s due to train today (Friday) so we’ll see how is for tomorrow.”

Former Nigerian international, Tijani Babangida has revealed that Super Eagles manager Eric Chelle gave Ademola Lookman a free hand in his squad during the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations, AFCON, tournament in Morocco.

Speaking on Sunday Oliseh’s Global Football Insights, Babangida said Chelle removed the number 11 position and gave Lookman a free hand to walk around on the pitch of play against the opponent.

According to him, the Italian has brought a system into the Super Eagles that is similar to Nigeria’s traditional setup.

“You can only put the number 7, but number 11 is free. Lookman can run there, a striker can run there, and you have more chances for good attacks, with more midfielders involved as well,” the former Ajax player said.

“That was a very good system, the system we used to play. You could see Nigerians were very surprised and wondered why the Super Eagles were playing so well.

“It’s because of that system, and it worked well with the boys. I hope we can keep that atmosphere.”

Evans Ogenyi has been appointed the new technical adviser of the Nigeria Premier Football League, NPFL, side Wikki Tourists.

Ogenyi was unveiled at the club’s secretariat in Bauchi on Friday.

The new tactician takes over from Abdullahi Maikaba who resigned from the post last month.

Ogenyi’s main task is to help the club maintain their top-flight status.

He was previously in charge of Kano Pillars and has also worked as an assistant coach with Rivers United.

Nigeria’s Super Falcons will now be decamped following the postponement of the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations, DAILY POST reports.

Justine Madugu’s side returned to the country on Wednesday after playing two friendlies against the Indomitable Lionesses of Cameroon in Yaoundé last week.

The African champions were initially expected to head to Morocco for the final phase of their preparations.

The players have now dispersed to their different clubs after the Confederation of African Football (CAF) rescheduled the tournament for July.

CAF, however, remains silent on the country that will host the biennial competition.

The Super Falcons are drawn in Group C with Malawi, Zambia, and Egypt.

Former Chelsea captain, John Terry, has claimed that Manchester City’s 2-2 draw with Nottingham Forest on Wednesday night, marks the end of their Premier League title charge.

City threw away the lead twice against the relegation battlers at the Etihad.

The result means Pep Guardiola’s men are now seven points behind leaders Arsenal, with nine fixtures left.

Speaking on TikTok, Terry claimed he was surprised by City dropping points, as the Gunners battled to a 1-0 win at Brighton.

He said: “There were some big performances and some upsets in the Premier League last night,’ he told his followers.

“Manchester City dropping points again, surely that’s the end of it for them after Arsenal beat Brighton as well.

“I didn’t see that one coming if I’m honest.”
