Abakaliki FC have described their performance in the 2025-26 Nigeria National League, NNL, season as disappointing.

The Rice Boys have accepted responsibility for not delivering on their target for the season.

Abakaliki FC have apologised to the club’s faithful for their shortfall in the campaign.

“We are not unaware of your disappointment that we fell short of our ultimate target of securing promotion to the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) this season,” Abakaliki FC wrote in an address to the supporters.

“We know how much this dream means to you, the entire Ebonyians, and to all of us in Abakaliki Football club.

“We accept responsibility for not delivering the result we all worked for, and we sincerely apologize to every fan who invested their strength, hope, time and resources in this journey- Head up!.”

Former Super Eagles captain Ahmed Musa was the hero as Kano Pillars rallied to beat Rivers United 2-1 at the Sani Abacha Stadium on Sunday.

Abdullahi Musa gave Pillars the lead in the 81st minute, while Handsome Surveyor restored parity for the visitors one minute from time.

Musa however netted the winning goal for home team on the stroke of 90 minutes.

Pillars moved clear of the relegation zone following the hard-earned victory.

In Ikenne, Remo Stars also boosted their survival hopes with a hard-earned 3-0 victory over Niger Tornadoes.

Experienced striker Victor Mbaoma gave the Sky Blue Stars the lead on 10 minutes.

It was Mbaoma’s 12th league goal of the campaign.

Olamilekan Adedayo and Samuel Anakwe got the other goals for Remo Stars.

The win lifted the Usman Abdallah side to 16th position.

Rangers returned to the summit courtesy of a 2-1 victory over oriental rivals, Enyimba, in Enugu.

Wonah Williams gave Enyimba the lead four minutes after the break.

Chidozie Iwundu equalised for Rangers in the 61st minute, while Ifeanyi Onyebuchi netted the winning goal for the Flying Antelopes seven minutes later.

Manchester City manager, Pep Guardiola, has urged his team not to lose focus while celebrating their Premier League 2-1 victory against Arsenal on Sunday.

Guardiola, however, wants the Cityzens to focus their attention on their next game against Burnley in the Premier League on Wednesday.

He stated this while speaking at his post-match press conference after City defeated the Gunners at the Etihad Stadium, thanks to Erling Haaland’s winner in the second half.

“We have to enjoy it (City’s win over Arsenal), celebrate it, take the good things, but don’t lose the focus,” Guardiola said.

“The focus is in three days, we go to Burnley.”

Man City is now three points behind Arsenal on the Premier League table with a game in hand.

British broadcaster, Piers Morgan, has criticized Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta over his decision to substitute the “Gunners best player”, Eberechi Eze, against Manchester City in Sunday’s Premier League clash.

Erling Haaland scored the winner for Pep Guardiola’s side in the second half of the match.

Arteta has opted to substitute Eze for Leandro Trossard in the 75th minute of the encounter.

However, Morgan was not pleased with Arteta’s decision, labelling it ‘ridiculous.’

In a post on X, Morgan wrote, “Eze off???? That’s ridiculous, he’s been our best player.”

The outcome of the match means Arsenal are now just three points above Man City in the Premier League table.

Arsenal manager, Mikel Arteta, has bemoaned his players’ inability to take their chances as they lost 2-1 to Manchester City in the Premier League on Sunday.

Arteta, speaking to BBC Match of the Day, said: “At the end it’s the result we came to conquer.

“We had the best chances in the game but we didn’t put them away and that’s the reality.”

On whether the belief is still there, he replied: “100%. I said to the boys we have to look in the mirror and the team we played in the moment, the history they have, to come back from a goal down.

“There’s a lot of things to take. The difference was in both boxes that’s for sure.”

Nigeria’s Flamingos will face Guinea in the final qualifying round for the 2026 FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup, DAILY POST reports.

Guinea secured a date with the Flamingos after a 8-2 aggregate win over Niger Republic.

The Guineans claimed a 5-2 victory over their neighbours in the first leg.

They won the second leg 3-0 in Conakry on Saturday.

Newly appointed Flamingos head coach, Akeem Busari has already summoned 36 players to camp to begin preparations for the clash with the Guineans.

Guinea will host the first leg between May 22-24, while the second leg is slated for Nigeria on May 30.

Former Premier League goalkeeper, Shay Given has conveyed his admiration for the attributes of Nigerian winger, Samuel Chukwueze following Fulham’s goalless draw against Brentford on Saturday.

Chukwueze, currently on loan at Fulham from AC Milan, was brought onto the field before the break after his fellow countryman, Alex Iwobi had to leave due to a suspected hamstring injury.

In a discussion on Premier League Productions, Given emphasized Chukwueze’s offensive capabilities and expressed hope regarding his impact on the match.

“Chukwueze has entered the game. I like him as well; he is a genuinely attacking player. You can expect to see similar link-up play in the second half,” Given remarked.

“At the very least, a bit of excitement is needed because the first half has been quite lackluster. Keane Lewis-Potter had a significant opportunity just before half-time to give Brentford the advantage but failed to capitalize on it,” he added.

Despite Chukwueze’s entry, Fulham could not secure a goal, resulting in a draw as they aimed to bounce back from their recent loss to Liverpool.

Since joining Craven Cottage, the Nigerian international has made a notable impact, scoring three goals and providing four assists in 19 league matches.

Chukwueze’s performances have reportedly led the Premier League side contemplating a permanent transfer at the end of the season.
