Real Madrid president, Florentino Perez, will announce the team’s first major signing for next season on Thursday, June 4.

This is coming before the Real Madrid presidential election, which will be held on June 7.

The incumbent president and candidate, Perez, announced in an interview with El Español that the first signing for the new season would be revealed this week.

“Of course. This Thursday, I will announce Real Madrid’s first major signing for next season,” Perez stated (via COPE).

“Everyone knows what my sporting plan is: to have the best players and continue winning.”

Perez is keen to bolster Real Madrid’s squad after they failed to win any major trophy in the recently concluded season.

Manchester United are ready to sell three of their players this summer transfer window after reportedly sealing a deal for Atalanta’s Ederson.

Ederson is set to become the Red Devils’ first transfer of the 2026 summer window.

Manchester United is keen to sign several players for the midfield position following the departure of Casemiro.

Former Flying Eagles tactician, Aliyu Zubair, has identified major factors hindering Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) clubs from progressing beyond the group stage of continental competitions.

Zubair said NPFL clubs would continue to struggle in these competitions unless they abandon the culture of short-term player recruitment.

He pointed out that clubs aiming to compete successfully on the continent must retain a core group of players for a longer period.

Zubair stressed that this approach would help build cohesion and understanding within the team.

“We will continue to struggle in continental competitions unless we change our orientation towards short-term signings,” Zubair told Kwara SWAN’s Sports Hard Talk programme on Wednesday.

“In other African clubs, players are signed for three to four seasons, giving them the opportunity to play together for a long period.

“This gives them an advantage over clubs here in Nigeria.”

Rivers United and Rangers will participate in the CAF Champions League next season, while Shooting Stars and the winner of the 2026 President Federation Cup will play in the CAF Confederation Cup.

The Nigeria Football Federation has released the fixtures for the quarter-finals of the 2026 Women’s President Federation Cup.

Rivers Angels will face Robo Queens in a South-South derby, while Heartland Queens will take on Ibom Angels in another clash between top-flight sides.

Sunshine Queens will do battle with Confluence Queens in the third fixture.

Edo Queens will face Nasarawa Amazons in the final quarter-final tie.

The competition continues to highlight the depth of talent in Nigeria’s women’s game.

The NFF is expected to announce the dates, venues, and kick-off times for the quarter-final round in the coming days.

The West Africans will also line up against a star-studded Portuguese side next weekend Wednesday in Lierra.

The Super Eagles successfully defended their Unity Cup title last weekend, further highlighting the impressive progress they have made under head coach Eric Chelle.

Onuachu is optimistic they can build on recent impressive performances.

“We have the quality to play against any team in the world and hopefully we are going to show it against Poland and Portugal, Onuachu told the Super Eagles media.

“Sadly we are not going to the World Cup because we have world-class players, but that’s football.”

FC Basel winger Philip Otele has arrived the Super Eagles camp in Warsaw for the international friendly against Poland, DAILY POST reports.

Otele’s arrival increased the number of players at head coach Éric Chelle’s disposal to 21.

The 27-year-old featured in Super Eagles’ two games at the Unity Cup invitational tournament last week.

The winger contributed an assist in Nigeria’s 3-0 final victory over the Reggae Boyz of Jamaica.

Otele is expected to be named among the substitutes against Poland due to his late arrival in camp.

He has been capped three times by Nigeria following his debut against Jordan in March.

Argentina icon Angel Di Maria has identified the favourites to win the 2026 FIFA World Cup this summer.

The recently retired Argentina player was instrumental in leading the Albiceleste to victory in the 2022 FIFA World Cup.

In an interview with Ballon d’Or, Di Maria shared his predictions for the tournament.

He stated that France is likely to be among the favorites due to their exceptional talent, and he also mentioned Spain as a possible contender.

Additionally, he highlighted the team of his former teammate Cristiano Ronaldo, Portugal, as one to watch in the World Cup.

He said, “Recently, several teams have entered the fray thanks to emerging players… France is a strong contender because they consistently produce top talent and maintain a high standard.

“I believe Spain could also establish themselves; they are performing well, although we will need to monitor the status of some injured players.

Manchester United on Wednesday confirmed that striker Rasmus Hojlund has joined Napoli on a permanent transfer.

Hojlund spent last season on loan at the Serie A club, scoring 16 goals in 44 games across all competitions.

However, the Denmark international has now permanently joined the Neapolitans.

Éric Chelle’s side are on a five-game winning streak.

The West Africans have won four and drawn one of their last five matches.

Ndidi said even though the Super Eagles want to build a solid team for the future, it is important to maintain their impressive run.

“Of course it’s about winning, but development also counts. A match against such a top rival as Poland will be a good test for our vision for the future,” Ndidi was quoted by przegladsportowy.onet.

The encounter slated for the PGE Narodowy Stadium, Warsaw, will kick-off at 7.45pm Nigeria time.
