Former Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola has named Santos forward Neymar as the player he would have loved to coach.

Guardiola has managed several football icons, including Lionel Messi, Xavi, Andres Iniesta, Erling Haaland and Kevin De Bruyne.

However, the Spaniard missed the opportunity to manage Neymar at Barcelona because he left Camp Nou in 2012, a year before the Brazilian arrived at the club in 2013.

According to OKX (via City Xtra), Guardiola said he wished he had coached Neymar.

“Always, I would have loved, as a manager, to coach Neymar,” Guardiola said.

“Seeing his grace, his beauty, his movements in his prime at Barcelona with Luis Suarez, Messi and him, under Luis Enrique—they were unstoppable.”

Former Sweden striker, Zlatan Ibrahimovic, has revealed that former Real Madrid manager Zinedine Zidane must bring his management to the France national team when he becomes the head coach.

Ibrahimovic spoke to Fox Sports ahead of France’s World Cup third-place final with England on Saturday.

Zidane is expected to replace Didier Deschamps as France’s next coach after the conclusion of the World Cup.

“Zidane did a good job, he was at Real Madrid,” Ibrahimovic said. “He won three Champions Leagues.

“We all know that he is going to take the [France] national team. I think he will just continue to do the work that Deschamps has built.

“He has the players. Then, he must bring his management to the team, the way he wants to do it.

“But I believe he is more of a manager type rather than a coach because this team doesn’t need a coach. They need a manager.”

Argentina captain, Lionel Messi, currently leads the list of players with the most big chances created at the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

This follows Argentina’s World Cup semi-final 2-1 win against England on Wednesday.

Messi has created eight big chances at the World Cup so far to top the list ahead of France international Michael Olise.

The Inter Miami forward has created three more chances ahead of the Bayern Munich winger.

Falconets midfielder Shakirat Moshood has joined Portuguese club SCU Torreense on a two-year contract, DAILY POST reports.

Moshood linked up with SCU Torreense from former Nigeria Women Football League, NWFL, champions Bayelsa Queens.

The move marks the beginning of the 18-year-old’s professional career in Europe.

The youngster captained the Flamingos at the 2025 FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup in Morocco.

Moshood was  runners-up in the 2025 CAF Women’s Youth Player of the Year award.

She  was part of the Falconets squad that qualified for the 2026 FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup which will hold in Poland in September.

SCU Torreense will compete in the UEFA Women’s Champions League for the first time next season.

Anthony Omaka has signed for Nigeria Premier Football League club, Barau FC, DAILY POST reports.

Omaka joined the Maliya Boys on a one-year contract.

The experienced defender left Rivers United following the expiration of his contract.

Omaka brings experience to the ambitious Barau FC team ahead of the new campaign.

He has featured for Heartland FC and Enyimba in the past.

Omaka has scored 12 goals in 178 matches in the NPFL.

Victor Osimhen is now set to be named new Galatasaray captain following the departure of Mauro Icardi, DAILY POST reports.

Icardi left the Turkish Super Lig champions following the expiration of his contract.

The Argentine’s departure was announced this week ending his four-year stint at the RAMS Park.

The 33-year-old won four Turkish Super Lig titles with the Yellow and Reds.

Osimhen assumed the role of Galatasaray’s deputy captain last season.

The 27-year-old is now expected to be elevated to the captaincy role.

The Nigeria international has been pivotal in Okan Buruk’s side winning the league title in the last two seasons.

Abdulmajeed Ibrahim has been appointed the new Sporting Director of Niger Tornadoes, DAILY POST reports.

Ibrahim’s appointment was confirmed by the Niger State government.

The appointment is in line with the state government’s commitment to reposition the club for the 2026-27 season.

Ibrahim is expected to drive professionalism, recruitment, and long-term structure of the club.

He earned a reputation for delivering excellence in his former assignment.

Bayelsa United have appointed Abdu Maikaba as their new head coach, DAILY POST reports.

The veteran tactician will combine the role with his duties as head coach of the Flying Eagles.

The Prosperity Boys were relegated from the Nigeria Premier Football League, NPFL, last season.

Maikaba has been tasked with the responsibility of ensuring the club’s immediate return to the top-flight.

The experienced tactician has managed a lot of top quality teams in the NPFL including Akwa United, Rangers, Kano Pillars, and Wikki Tourists.

He was in charge of Wikki Tourists last season.

NNL: Bayelsa United appoint Maikaba as new head coach

England legend, David Beckham, has reacted to the Three Lions’ World Cup semi-final 2-1 defeat to Argentina on Wednesday.

Beckham, who was present at the Atlanta Stadium during the encounter, admitted ‘heartbreak’ after Argentina defeated England to qualify for the 2026 World Cup final.

Two goals from Enzo Fernandez and Lautaro Martinez gave Argentina the victory against Thomas Tuchel’s side.

Reacting, Beckham, in a post via his Instagram account after the game, wrote: “Heartbreak for us all but memories that inspire and last forever…

“Thank you to our team, our fans & our country for what you have given us in this World Cup.”

England will now face France for the third-place final on Saturday.

Argentina captain, Lionel Messi, has revealed his expectations when his side faces Spain in the 2026 World Cup final on Sunday.

Messi led Argentina as they defeated England 2-0 in the semi-final on Wednesday to book a place in the final of the competition.

Speaking at his post-match interview after the game, the Inter Miami forward said he expects a very closely encounter between Argentina and Spain in the World Cup final this weekend.

“They [Spain] are a tremendous team, with outstanding players. They play excellent football,” Messi said.

“I know the Spanish side well, and they have a style of play they have developed over many years.

“Several of the squad play for Barca, a club that means a great deal to me and that I still keep up with. It will be a special World Cup final, and obviously, I expect it to be very closely matched.”
