2026 World Cup: I’m ready to gamble – Saka speaks ahead of England vs Croatia

England winger, Bukayo Saka, has said he is ready to keep gambling on his fitness for the good of the team’s 2026 World Cup campaign.

Saka on Monday, declared himself fit to feature in the Group L opener with Croatia in Dallas.

The 24-year-old is dealing with a persistent Achilles problem, which he picked up playing for Arsenal.

Ahead of the World Cup, manager Thomas Tuchel admitted that Saka was unable to train on consecutive days.

But Saka has now told reporters that players take to pitch even when they are not fully fit.

“As players, it’s the biggest gamble, especially if you’re not feeling your sharpest,” Saka said.

“You have the choice whether you don’t play or you put yourself out there knowing people are going to judge you the same.”

World Cup 2026: England have no chance – Morrison warns Tuchel about Kane

Former Crystal Palace forward, Clinton Morrison, has warned England manager Thomas Tuchel that the Three Lions has no chance of winning the 2026 FIFA World Cup without ‘brilliant’ striker Harry Kane.

Tuchel is aiming to end England’s 60 years of wait without a World Cup.

Recall that the last time England won the World Cup trophy was in 1966, their first in the history of the competition.

“Let me tell you something, if Harry Kane is not fit or not available, England have no chance of winning the World Cup,” Morrison was quoted by Metro as telling Free Bets. “That is my honest opinion.

“He’s had an outstanding season for Bayern Munich. Brilliant striker, brilliant captain, leads by example. He is the key to everything England want to do.”

Kane had a brilliant campaign with Bayern Munich last season as he helped them to win the Bundesliga.

World Cup 2026: ‘Still an idiot despite my age’ – Klopp apologises to Nagelsmann

Former Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has extended an apology to Julian Nagelsmann, the head coach of Germany, regarding a contentious remark he made prior to the nation’s FIFA World Cup campaign.

Klopp’s use of the word “still” in connection with Nagelsmann’s position as Germany’s head coach implied a degree of uncertainty about the latter’s future.

While serving as a pundit for FIFA World Cup coverage on Magenta TV alongside former Germany international Thomas Muller, Klopp commented on Germany’s team selection (as reported by Mirror), stating, “Fortunately, Julian Nagelsmann is still picking the team.”

However, following Germany’s 7-1 victory over World Cup newcomers Curacao on Sunday, June 14, Klopp has since apologised to his compatriot. He remarked:

“I have already identified the most despised word of the year: ‘Still’. I could have slapped myself for that, but it was too late as I was live on TV. It just came out so effortlessly, and it holds no significance.

“What I have come to understand is that I will be 59 on Tuesday, and I am still an idiot,” he added.

The 58-year-old then reiterated his unwavering support for Nagelsmann, stating:

“We are entirely behind you, regardless of what you decide with this. Nothing will arise that is meant to disrupt the process here.”

Klopp has not been involved in football management since resigning as Liverpool’s manager in 2024. The German coach assumed the position of Head of Global Football at Red Bull, yet he has been speculated as a potential successor to Nagelsmann.

Ronaldo: ‘I’ll like to start’ – Ramos sends message to Portugal boss, Martinez

Portugal forward, Goncalo Ramos, who is expected to serve as the backup to captain Cristiano Ronaldo at the 2026 FIFA World Cup, has candidly reflected on his position in the team.

During the 2025-26 season at Paris Saint-Germain, he made 45 appearances, with only 15 of those being in the starting lineup. He scored 12 goals and provided two assists, averaging a goal contribution every 142 minutes, which is approximately one and a half matches.

At the international level, Ramos has primarily come off the bench, as the centre-forward role is held by Ronaldo. He has accumulated 10 goals and three assists in 25 appearances for Portugal, with only 10 of those being starts.

In the 2022 FIFA World Cup, Ronaldo netted just one goal during the group stage, converting a penalty in a 3-2 victory over Ghana. In the Round of 16 match against Switzerland, Ramos, who had played only ten minutes in the group stage, took the place of the 41-year-old in the starting line-up and made history.

He scored a hat-trick and provided an assist in a dominant 6-1 win, marking his emergence on the international scene. However, in recent times, he has returned to being a secondary option under coach Roberto Martinez.

Ramos discussed his role with the national team during an appearance on the watch.tm podcast alongside his PSG and Portugal teammate Nuno Mendes. He emphasized the importance of patience and waiting for his chance.

The 24-year-old remarked (via @TheNassrZone on X), “Naturally, I would prefer to be a starter. However, when you observe the players performing well, you must consider: ‘Alright, they’re excelling… just wait for your opportunity.’”

As the player with the most international appearances (228) and goals (143) in history, all attention will be focused on Ronaldo at the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

EPL: ‘He has class’ – Roberto Di Matteo names player Chelsea should sign for Alonso

Former Chelsea manager, Roberto Di Matteo, has named the player he would like the Blues to sign for incoming head coach Xabi Alonso.

Alonso will officially start work as Chelsea’s new manager on July 1, as he visited the club’s training complex in Cobham last week.

He is expected to bring in new players to bolster his squad ahead of next season.

Di Matteo wants Chelsea to sign Sandro Tonali from Newcastle, stating that the Italian is a class player.

“I think Sandro Tonali is a class player. He is a good age, too,” Di Matteo told Ladbrokes.

“I am not sure whether Chelsea needs another player in that particular department. I suppose it would depend on someone leaving. You know, they have Enzo [Fernandez], [Moises] Caicedo, Andrey Santos and Romeo Lavia. If one of those were to leave, then maybe.

“I would love to see him at Chelsea. But, for me, their priorities this summer should be in other areas of the pitch.”
