Super Eagles head coach Éric Chelle was in attendance during the Nigeria Premier Football League, NPFL, matchday 36 encounter between Shooting Stars and Nasarawa United at the Lekan Salami Stadium, Adamasinga, Ibadan, on Sunday.

Shooting Stars won the keenly contested encounter 3-2 to move to third position on the NPFL table.

Chelle was on a scouting mission ahead of this month’s 2026 Unity Cup.

The Malian has promised to feature a significant number of local players in his squad for the invitational friendly tournament.

Chelle will also be in attendance when Ikorodu City host Wikki Tourists at the Mobolaji Johnson Arena, Onikan, Lagos, on Tuesday.

The 48-year-old is expected to name his squad for the Unity Cup next week.

The Super Eagles will take on Zimbabwe in the semi-final of the competition at the Valley on Tuesday, 26 May.

Enyimba Football Club of Aba on Sunday continued its good run, beating 2024/2025 league winners, Remo Stars, 2-1 in Aba.

The latest victory took the Aba-based team to 11th position in the Nigerian Premier Football League (NPFL) with 46 points.

Enyimba, playing under the guidance of their new coach, Emmanuel Gustavo, came into the game with an early push, as Stanley Dimgba missed a good scoring chance in the 2nd minute.

The visitors, Remo Stars, initiated attacks in a clinical pattern in the 21st minute, taking the lead against Enyimba.

But Enyimba equalised seven minutes later as Stanley Dimgba scored in the 28th minute.

Reliable attacker, Chidera Michael, scored in the 49th minute, sending the Aba fans into a rendezvous of jubilation.

Meanwhile, NPFL defending champions, Remo Stars, who lost to Enyimba, are sitting in 18th position on the NPFL table with 43 points after playing 36 games.

The latest result leaves Remo at the risk of being relegated from the NPFL.

FC Robo Queens have been crowned the champions of the 2026 Lagos State Women’s Federation Cup, DAILY POST reports.

Robo Queens thrashed Ghetto Tigers 4-0 at the Mobolaji Johnson Arena, Onikan, on Sunday.

Emmanuel Osahon’s side made history by winning the tournament a record 15 times.

DAILY POST recalls that Robo Queens were knocked out of the tournament by Unification Ladies FC last year.

Robo Queens and Ghetto Tigers will play in the 2026 Women’s National Federation Cup.

They last reached the final of the competition in 2021, where they lost to Bayelsa Queens.

Rivers Angels won the competition last year.

Rangers moved closer to winning a ninth Nigeria Premier Football League, NPFL, title following a 2-0 away win over Bayelsa United at the Samson Siasia Stadium, Yenagoa.

The Flying Antelopes scored in each half to seal the crucial victory.

Fidelis Ilechukwu’s side maintained top spot on the standings with 62 points from 36 matches.

In Port Harcourt, Rivers United kept pressure on Rangers with a 3-0 victory over Abia Warriors.

The hosts were frustrated in the first half, but scored all three goals after the break.

Wasiu Falolu put Rivers United ahead in the 50th minute.

Timothy Zachariah and Bello Babatunde scored the other goals for Finidi George’s side.

Holders Remo Stars went down 2-1 to Enyimba in Aba.

Former Enyimba striker Victor Mbaoma gave Remo Stars the lead in the 21st minute.

Stanley Dimgba and Chidera Michael scored for Enyimba to claim maximum points.

NPFL: Rangers maintain top spot, Rivers United floor Abia Warriors

Manchester United interim manager, Michael Carrick, on Sunday set a record following his side’s Premier League 3-2 victory against Liverpool.

Carrick watched as the Red Devils defeated Liverpool at Old Trafford on Sunday evening.

Three goals from Matheus Cunha, Kobbie Mainoo and Benjamin Sesko gave the hosts all three points against Arne Slot’s side.

However, according to OptaJoe, Carrick is now the only sixth manager and first English manager to win eight plus of his opening nine home games in the Premier League.

The 44-year-old is also the first since Antonio Conte in the 2016-17 season (also 8 wins out of nine home games).

Carrick was appointed temporarily until the end of the season after Man United sacked Ruben Amorim earlier this year.

Kano Pillars forward, Bernard Ovoke, has urged his teammates to show determination in the matchday 36 encounter against Kun Khalifat FC.

The Sai Masu Gida will trade tackles with Kun Khalifat at the Dan Anyiam Stadium, Owerri on Sunday (today).

Ovoke, who will miss the encounter due to injury, has wished his teammates luck in the game.

Napoli striker, Romelu Lukaku, is ready to leave the Serie A club after the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

This was disclosed by football transfer expert, Nicolò Schira, in a post on X on Sunday.

According to Schira, Napoli have already asked for €10m to sell the Belgium international whose contract will expire in 2027.

He added that some clubs from “Turkey and Saudi have already shown interest in signing” the former Chelsea and Manchester United attacker.

This is coming after Napoli manager, Antonio Conte, insisted that he was disappointed with Lukaku.

Lukaku is facing disciplinary action for skipping Napoli’s training some weeks ago.

Former Nigerian international, Peter Osaze Odemwingie, has questioned how Nigeria will win a World Cup when the country’s good players play for England and other countries.

Odemwingie stated this while calling on players of Nigerian descent born abroad to embrace their roots.

The former West Brom striker had dual heritage with Russia and Nigeria, but opted to represent Nigeria and made his debut for the Super Eagles back in 2002.

Speaking to Brila, the 43-year-old also suggested why some current players who have dual nationality opted to play for England and other European countries instead of Nigeria.

Recall that the likes of Bukayo Saka, Eberechi Eze, Tammy Abraham, Noni Madueke, and Michael Olise all decided to play for England and France, respectively, instead of Nigeria.

“Parents have a big role to play, but, you know, these days this generation pride is plenty they do shakara for Africa, that is another part of the problem,” Odemwingie said.

“I won’t judge anybody. Imagine one day the whole football squad of England will be Nigerians. It’s Nigerian genes that are showing themselves how Nigeria go win the World Cup when our talents go out to serve other people.

“One day we will have the opposite effect when people will want to play for Nigeria and bring the World Cup trophy home because these players are good players, they grew up in a better football environment, maybe tactically and technically sound.”

Their return is expected to boost coach Meremu Okara’s side as they push for survival.

Bayelsa United will face Rangers at Samson Siasia Stadium in Yenagoa on Sunday (today).

The Yenagoa-based club have lost their last three league games.

A defeat in this fixture would be detrimental to Bayelsa United’s hopes of escaping the drop.
