Media personality Toke Makinwa has sparked conversation online after sharing her views on the emotional intelligence of many Nigerian men.

Speaking during a recent episode of the MENtality podcast hosted by Ebuka Obi-Uchendu, Makinwa argued that a significant number of Nigerian men rely heavily on financial provision as their main contribution to relationships, often neglecting emotional connection and communication.

According to her, the widespread belief that Nigerian women are overly materialistic is partly a result of how some men approach relationships.

She suggested that many men equate generosity with affection and assume that offering money is enough to win a woman’s interest or maintain a relationship.

Makinwa noted that in her experience, some men quickly resort to financial gestures instead of investing time in getting to know a potential partner. 

“From time immemorial, a relationship between a man and a woman has always been transactional, right from the Garden of Eden, right from our parents’ days. And the degree at which it is happening now, I will blame the men. Sometimes, that [financial benefits] is all men have to offer. Nigerian men don’t have games aside from money. Once a Nigerian man makes money, he starts throwing it at the hottest girls. Sometimes, you meet a man and you want to know him but he is offering you money. Men have offered women the strangest things and it made me realise that men feel cash is all they need to show you. Most girls who are materialistic today, men taught them how to make demands,” she stated.

She added that this behaviour has contributed to a culture where material expectations have become common in modern relationships.

The actress further claimed that many women learned to prioritise material benefits because they were repeatedly shown by men that money was the most valuable thing being offered.

Her remarks have since generated mixed reactions on social media, with some agreeing that emotional intelligence is often overlooked in relationships, while others argued that her comments unfairly generalised Nigerian men.

Prominent Nigerian Zion Gospel musician, Lekan Remilekun, has revealed that his father has been missing for the past 26 years.

Remilekun recently made the disclosure during an interview on Talk to B podcast.

While narrating how his father, Remilekun Amos, a legendary gospel singer, went missing, the singer said his father disappeared in November 2000 after he was invited to Akure, the capital of Ondo State, for a ministration.

Expressing his pain, the singer in the heartbreaking video said his children have been asking him to tell them about their grandfather.

“My father, Remilekun Amos, was declared missing when he went for that missionary journey in November 2000, and that was the end. 

“He was invited to Akure. A Yoruba proverb says “omo eni ku, o San ju omo eni sonu lo” meaning (a dead child is better than a missing or lost child). 26 years counting now. My children are asking me to tell them about grandpa. No one can feel the pain more than the victim, which is me,” he said.

Olamilekan Adedayo says he is yet to decide on his next move despite rumours linking him with a return to the Nigeria Premier Football League, NPFL.

Adedayo is currently recuperating from an undisclosed injury.

The midfielder’s contract with the Sky Blue Stars is expected to expire in December.

Adadayo says that he would wish to reunite with his former coach Daniel Ogunmodede at Kano Pillars.

DAILY POST recalls that Ogunmodede was appointed the new technical adviser of Kano Pillars last week.

“I am still a Remo Stars player and I have not made any decision to leave the club,” Adedayo told IGSportzone.

“If any offer comes I will sit down with Remo Stars to discuss what is best for everyone involved. Until then I cannot say I prefer one club over other.

“Yes I would love to reunite with my former coach Daniel Ogunmodede.”

Adedayo won the Player of the Season for Remo Stars in their NPFL title winning campaign in 2025.

Afrobeats star, Davido has explained why he chose to spotlight Nigeria’s growing kidnapping crisis during his performance at the opening ceremony of the FIFA World Cup, insisting that the safety of citizens should take precedence over concerns about the country’s image.

The singer revealed that he used the global platform to draw attention to the abduction of schoolchildren and their teachers in Oyo State.

During the event, Davido wore a specially designed outfit bearing the names of the missing victims, a gesture aimed at raising international awareness and keeping public attention on the ongoing tragedy.

Speaking during a recent interview, the award-winning artist criticised what he described as the reluctance of some influential individuals to openly discuss security challenges in Nigeria.

According to him, attempts to protect the nation’s reputation should never come at the expense of speaking out about issues affecting innocent citizens.

“A lot of people do not want to talk about what is happening in my country because they want to protect a lot of images. Which image is there to protect if little children are being kidnapped?” he said, stressing that human lives matter more than public relations.

Davido added that although performing on one of the world’s biggest stages was a privilege, he felt a responsibility to use his voice for those who cannot speak for themselves.

He maintained that artists and public figures should not remain silent in the face of humanitarian and security concerns, especially when vulnerable people are involved. At the time of his remarks, the abducted pupils and their teachers had yet to be found.

Veteran Nigerian movie producer and director, actor Sunny Alli, has declared Nollywood witchcraft and money rituals storylines unrealistic.

He stated this during his recent interview.

Discussing his beliefs, the veteran actor, who stated that he doesn’t believe in witchcraft and money rituals, revealed that such storylines can never be found in his script.

Challenging his colleagues, Sunny Alli questioned if any of them had attended witchcraft meetings before to know their costumes and accessories or if the spirit that brings money to ritualists has a printing machine or partner with CBN?

While declaring such storylines unrealistic, he said “I love making realistic movies.”

“There are certain things I can never write in my films. Things like witches having meetings. How? Who has ever been to their meeting before or know where they meet? What did they look like? Or something like someone is sick and was taken to the cleric for prayers and while praying for the person, something came out from him and the sickness disappeared.

“I don’t believe in money rituals. Because they said it is the spirit that is supplying the money, and I asked if the spirit has its own printing machine? Or is the spirit bringing the money from the Central Bank or from the bureau de change? I love making realistic movies
