The Nasarawa State Police Command has announced the arrest of two suspected kidnappers allegedly connected to the abduction of students from the Faculty of Engineering, Nasarawa State University, Gudi Campus, while confirming the safe release of the victims.
According to a statement issued on Tuesday by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Ramhan Nansel, the breakthrough followed “sustained intelligence-led operations and coordinated tactical efforts” by operatives of the Command.
The police identified the suspects as Abdullahi Yeyi Haro, described as the alleged leader of the kidnapping syndicate, and Basiru Abdullahi, both natives of Gudi community in Nasarawa State.
The statement noted that the suspects were apprehended after what it described as “diligent investigation and strategic operations aimed at dismantling the criminal network responsible for the abduction.”
The Command further confirmed that the abducted students had regained their freedom and reunited with their families after the operation.
“The abducted students have been safely released and reunited with their families. The victims are currently receiving medical attention and necessary support following their ordeal,” the statement added.
Reacting to the development, the Commissioner of Police in Nasarawa State, Shetima Jauro Mohammed, commended officers involved in the operation for their professionalism and dedication to duty.
He reiterated the Command’s resolve to combat kidnapping and other violent crimes across the state, assuring residents that efforts were ongoing to apprehend other fleeing members of the syndicate.
“The Command remains determined to rid Nasarawa State of all forms of criminality, particularly kidnapping and other violent crimes,” the statement quoted the Commissioner as saying.
The police also appreciated members of the public for providing timely information that contributed to the success of the operation and urged residents to continue supporting security agencies with credible intelligence.
