
At least six people have died and six others were injured after an improvised explosive device (IED) detonated along the Bagega–Anka road in Zamfara State.
The blast occurred early on Thursday when a commercial vehicle conveying passengers was travelling along the road in Anka Local Government Area.
The explosion reportedly damaged the vehicle and disrupted movement in the area.
Residents said suspected bandits planted the explosive device, which went off as the vehicle passed.
According to reports, the explosion occurred around 9 am on Thursday. Some passengers died at the scene, while others sustained serious injuries.
The spokesperson of the Zamfara State Police Command, DSP Yazid Abubakar, confirmed the incident.
He said six people were confirmed dead, while six others were receiving treatment in hospital.
He also stated that security personnel had been deployed to the area and that normal activities had since resumed.
