The Ogun State Commissioner for Environment, Ola Oresanya, alongside the general manager of the State Environmental Protection Agency (OGEPA), Kehinde Bello, on Tuesday visited Our Lady of Apostle Primary School in Ijebu-Ode following a suspected chemical leak in the area.
Recall that last week Wednesday, a strange chemical smell was perceived in the school premises, shortly after the assembly session
making it difficult for many students and staff to breathe.
This resulted to the admission of 30 students and two teachers at the State General Hospital, Ijebu Ode.
According to the Vice Principal, Mrs. Adeola Borogun, several students began vomiting and fainting, forcing the school management to call for ambulances.
Reacting to the incident, Governor Dapo Abiodun ordered the immediate closure and full investigation to unravel the circumstances surrounding the incident.
DAILY POST reports that Tuesday’s visit was part of the state government response to assess the situation and ensure the safety of students, staff, and residents within the affected environment.
During the inspection, Kehinde Bello also visited a neighbouring school, Sacred Heart Catholic College, to evaluate the impact of the incident and reassure the school authorities of the government’s swift intervention.
The OGEPA boss, further proceeded to the State Hospital in Ijebu-Ode, where some students affected by the suspected chemical leak are currently receiving medical treatment.
The State government, through OGEPA, reassured residents and school authorities that investigations were ongoing and that necessary measures would be taken to safeguard public health and prevent a recurrence of such incident.

A Nigerian United States citizen and health specialist, Kelvin Onyiaeze, has announced plans to file a N1 billion defamation suit against social commentator Martins Otse, known as VeryDarkMan.
Onyiaeze disclosed this in a briefing in Abuja on Friday.
Recall that in a viral video, VeryDarkMan alleged that Onyiaeze is a land grabber.
However, reacting, Onyiaeze described VeryDarkMan’s claims as malicious and an attempt to tarnish his image.
He said VeryDarkMan’s claim is a ‘total falsehood.’
“The allegations contained in the viral video are a total falsehood and a coordinated attempt at character assassination. Mr. Kelvin Onyiaeze is a law-abiding United States citizen and a distinguished healthcare specialist.
“The attempt to weaponize social media to destroy the livelihood of an international healthcare professional is not only wicked but a threat to the safety of the diaspora community,” Onyiaeze said.
He noted that VeryDarkMan’s action is a breach of Nigeria’s cybersecurity acts and his data privacy.
“We wish to remind the public and the authorities that the digital space is not a lawless vacuum. The actions of “VeryDarkMan” constitute a direct violation specifically regarding cyberstalking, bullying, and the distribution of racist contravention of the Cybercrimes (Prohibition, Prevention, etc.) Act 2015 and xenophobic material aimed at causing fear and reputational harm,” he said.
He urged the Nigerian Police and Department of State Security Services to take action against VeryDarkMan.
“We hereby urge the Nigeria Police Force (NPF), the Department of State Services (DSS), and the Office of the Attorney General to take immediate punitive measures against Martins Otse (VeryDarkMan). The law must take its course to serve as a deterrent to digital terrorists who use their platforms to blackmail and de-market hardworking citizens for “clout” or financial gain.
“Our legal team, led by Barrister Abubarka Orumah, has been instructed to proceed with a $1 billion libel and defamation suit,” he said.
