The Kano State Police Command says it has recovered two stolen vehicles in separate operations in Tarauni and Kumbotso local government areas.
In a statement on Sunday, the police spokesperson, Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, said the recoveries were part of ongoing efforts to strengthen intelligence-led and visibility policing across the state.
He explained that the operations reflect the command’s “renewed commitment to proactive crime prevention, management, and control.”
The first case involved a Toyota Corolla stolen in Abuja. According to the statement, the car, a 2004 model with registration number DRA 735AA, was taken on April 22 at Holy Rosary Catholic Church in Wuse.
Kiyawa said police operatives acted quickly after receiving credible information.
“Operatives of the Command’s Special Intervention Squad (SIS) swiftly swung into action,” he said.
The vehicle was later found in Darmarawa Layout, Naibawa area of Tarauni LGA.
Police believe the car was left there by a suspected serial car thief who is still on the run.
The spokesperson added that efforts are ongoing to arrest the suspect.
In the second case, a Kia Optima belonging to a resident, Musbahu Baba Muhammad, was stolen on April 24 near a mosque along BUK Road.
The police said officers from Sharada Division began investigations immediately after the incident was reported. With support from members of the Zone 5 Ja’en Vigilante Group, the vehicle was recovered early the next day in Ja’en Quarters.
“The stolen vehicle was recovered and is now in safe custody,” Kiyawa said, adding that investigations are ongoing to track down those responsible.
The Commissioner of Police in Kano, Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, praised the officers involved for their professionalism, swift response, and dedication to duty.
He also thanked members of the vigilante group and the public for providing useful information.
Kiyawa noted that the success of the operations shows the importance of community policing.
He said the command remains committed to protecting lives and property and urged residents to stay alert.
“The Command urges members of the public to remain vigilant and to continue providing useful information on suspicious persons and activities,” he said.
Police say efforts are ongoing to arrest all suspects connected to the thefts.
