Former Werder Bremen forward, Martin Harni, has hit out at Victor Boniface for adding several kilograms over his ideal weight.
Boniface is now facing a fierce backlash over his fitness levels as he struggles to work his way back from injury.
The Nigerian international, who is currently on loan at Werder Bremen from Bayer Leverkusen, has only recently returned to training after a long injury layoff.
However, instead of a straightforward recovery, the spotlight has shifted to his physical shape.
Reports indicate that after three months out, Boniface showed up for training overweight.
Images of the 25-year-old quickly made the rounds, drawing sharp criticism from Harnik.
“When I join team training, I have to be as fit as possible, and he is confused fit with overweight,” Harnik said on his podcast, as quoted by 20min.
“He’s carrying a considerable amount of weight. He’s coming back from this injury in a terrible state – that is unprofessional.”
