Lagos State Task Force, in collaboration with the Lagos State Mobile Court, has impounded eight vehicles for traffic violations in parts of Ikorodu and its environs.
The enforcement exercise was carried out in response to the increasing disregard for traffic regulations in the area.
Authorities said the operation combined strict enforcement with on-the-spot prosecution of offenders as part of efforts to curb dangerous driving practices across the state.
According to officials, the initiative also aims to address growing concerns raised by residents over the safety of pedestrians, schoolchildren, passengers, and law-abiding motorists within the metropolis.
The agency explained that while the operation forms part of its routine activities, it aligns with measures to eliminate the risks posed by reckless drivers who violate traffic laws, particularly by driving against traffic.
Speaking on the development, the agency’s spokesperson, Gbadeyan Abdulraheem, noted that one-way driving has contributed to avoidable accidents, injuries, and fatalities in the state.
Chairman of the Task Force, Adetayo Akerele, warned that failure to address such infractions could allow the problem to escalate into a major threat to public safety.
He reaffirmed the agency’s determination to sustain enforcement against violators.
The operation covered several locations within Ikorodu, including the Haruna axis, where multiple offenders were apprehended.
At the conclusion of the exercise, eight motorists were arraigned before the Mobile Court sitting in Ikorodu.
Five of the defendants admitted to charges bordering on driving against traffic and making illegal U-turns, while three others pleaded not guilty. Their cases were adjourned to March 24, 2026, and May 5, 2026, respectively.
Akerele stressed that the agency would not show leniency, maintaining that enforcement efforts would continue in line with the provisions of the Lagos State Transport Sector Reform Law of 2018.
He reiterated the Task Force’s commitment to ensuring strict compliance with traffic regulations and improving safety on Lagos roads.
