Troops kill one terrorist, injure many in Zamfara raid

Troops of the Nigerian Army have neutralised a suspected terrorist and recovered weapons during an operation in Shinkafi Local Government Area of Zamfara State, the military said.

The development was contained in a post shared on X on Saturday by security analyst Zagazola Makama, who cited security sources.

According to the report, troops of the 1 Brigade, operating under Operation FANSAN YANMA, carried out a deliberate clearance mission on March 13 targeting suspected terrorist camps in Tubali and Zangon Danmaka.

“The operation followed credible intelligence on the presence of armed bandits and other criminal elements using the areas as hideouts,”Makama wrote.

“During the operation at Tubali, troops engaged the suspected terrorists in a brief gun battle, forcing some to flee into nearby forested areas. One suspected terrorist was neutralised, while others reportedly escaped with possible gunshot injuries,” he added.

Security sources said troops recovered one AK-47 rifle, a magazine containing two rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition, and a motorcycle believed to belong to the fleeing suspects. The recovered items were secured, and further searches were conducted to ensure the area was safe.

When troops advanced to Zangon Danmaka, no contact was made, as the suspects were believed to have left the area ahead of the military’s arrival.

The military said troops continue to patrol and conduct surveillance in the general area to prevent terrorists from regrouping and to maintain security in the region.
