The Kano State Command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) says its officers have arrested four young men suspected of attacking residents and snatching mobile phones in Dorayi Babba, Gwale Local Government Area.

According to the command, the suspects were caught during a routine patrol after residents raised the alarm about a group of hoodlums causing trouble in the area.

In a statement released on Friday, the NSCDC said a concerned resident alerted officers at a nearby outpost about several youths armed with dangerous weapons who had gathered near a community school.

The statement was signed by the Public Relations Officer of the Kano State Command, SC Ibrahim Idris Abdullahi, on behalf of the State Commandant.

According to him, the suspects were reportedly attacking people who were praying Taraweeh and passers-by while stealing their belongings, including mobile phones.

The statement said NSCDC personnel quickly moved to the area and dispersed the group.

Four suspects were arrested during the operation. They were identified as Yusuf Auwal, 18; Abubakar Abdullahi, 21; Huzaifa Ismail Aliyu, 27; and Yushau Abubakar, 17.

All the suspects are residents of Dorayi Babba in Gwale Local Government Area of Kano State.

Officials said the suspects were arrested after allegedly attacking a resident and snatching his phone.

The corps added that the suspects were found with a sharp knife and two parcels of marijuana at the time of their arrest.

Speaking on the incident, the command said the suspects were involved in activities that disturb public peace.

“Operatives on routine patrol apprehended four suspects in connection with causing public disturbance, attacks, and phone snatching at Dorayi Babba in Gwale Local Government Area,” the statement said.

It added that the suspects were caught after attacking a victim and taking his mobile phone.

The NSCDC also confirmed that investigations into the case have been completed.

“Investigation into the case has been concluded, and the four suspects will be charged in court,” the command said.

Security authorities have urged residents to continue sharing useful information with security agencies to help tackle crime and protect communities.
