Former Arsenal midfielder Gilberto Silva believes a summer transfer that sees Neymar playing for the Gunners is “not impossible”.

Neymar has endured a horror spell since moving to Saudi Arabia, playing just a handful of games for Al-Hilal before a major injury struck.

The former Barcelona Star hasn’t played for them since as they went on to become league champions.

It is Neymar’s first year away from Europe since joining Barcelona back in 2013 but at 32 he still has plenty to offer.

He has previously been prolific during his career, claiming numerous titles, and Gilberto claims a move to the Premier League is feasible.

“I’d love to see Neymar in the Premier League with Arsenal, it would be interesting that’s for sure,” Gilberto told Bet365 via The Sun.

“It would bring a lot of joy to fans and make the competition even more special. When you look at the Premier League, we want to see the best players in the world and to have him around would be great. Let’s see. It’s not impossible that he could join Arsenal, why not.”

The Gunners are in the market for more firepower this summer, but have been knocked back by the likes of Benjamin Sesko, who opted to remain at RB Leipzig.

Gabriel Jesus was their last major recruit in the attacking third, but he hasn’t scored with regularity.

Previously, Neymar produced huge numbers, especially during his Barcelona days and often played from a wider role however, rather than a No 9, which may not appeal to Mikel Arteta.

Earlier in his career Neymar did open the door to an England switch.

“The Premier League is a championship that amazes me. I like the playing style and the teams. And who knows? Someday, I would like to play [in] it, yes.

“I admire Manchester United, Chelsea, Arsenal, Liverpool —these are the teams that are always there fighting.”
