
Kwara State police command, has arrested a 15-year old boy, identified as Gobir Yusuf for the alleged murder of one woman, named Mrs Akanbi.
Also arrested were 17 kidnap suspects, three suspected cultists and two others for attempted culpable homicide.
State Police Commissioner, Adekimi Ojo, disclosed this at a press conference in Ilorin on Friday.
According to the police boss, on January 14,2026, “the 15-year old suspect, who was residing with the deceased, allegedly concealed himself behind a door and attacked her while she was bathing using household items, including frying pan, kitchen knives, kitchen turning stick and weighing scale.
“During interrogation, the suspect confessed that the act was motivated by resentment and that previous attempts to poison the deceased has failed.
The suspect had earlier poisoned soup and watermelon of the deceased but failed before the physical attack on her which claimed her life.
Items recovered from Gobir Yusuf, included frying pan, kitchen knives and kitchen turning stick, the police commissioner added.
Adekimi, revealed that after committing the offence, the suspect changed his clothes and left the residence under the pretext of running an errand and later contacted the deceased’s husband who discovered her lifeless body in a pool of blood.
The suspect, will be charged to court upon conclusion of police investigation, the commissioner stated.
The Seventeen kidnap suspects arrested, included three men, Bello Ori, Muhammad Jemarr and Mohammad Shehu, linked to the alleged abduction of construction workers along Owu falls road in Ifelodun Local Government Area of Kwara state.
The suspects, currently in police custody, were arrested on February 26,2026, after one of the victims’ stolen mobile phones was detected in active use, which enabled digital tracking, identification and precise location of the culprits.
Adekimi, said sustained investigative and operational efforts are ongoing to identify, track and apprehend other accomplices linked to the crime.
Similarly, ten other kidnap suspects were arrested at Oro-Ago, in Ifelodun Local Government Area, with 10 motorcycles recovered on March 1,2026, including a mechanic identified as the technical facilitator responsible for maintaining the motorcycles and logistics operative allegedly supplying fuel and other operational support to the syndicate.
In the same vein, three other Kidnap suspects, Zubairu Abubakar, Alhaji Issa and Abdullahi Alhaji Yahaya, were arrested by operatives attached to SUPOL, at Patigi while conducting stop and search operation along Duro/Kpada road.
“During the search, one locally made revolver loaded with six rounds of AK-47 live ammunition, was recovered in their possession and failed to provide satisfactory account of the firearm and ammunition” the police commissioner stated.
Adekimi, further announced the arrest of three suspected cultists, identified as AbdulRasheed Hammed, (aka Baniq), Abdulgannen Abdulafeez, (aka Jagaban) and Muhammed Nuhu Wahab, (aka Honorable).
Items recovered from them included one locally made silver pistol with two live rounds of ammunition, one locally made shotgun, one locally crafted pump action single barrel firearm, two large portrait images bearing NBM secret cult insignia, two battle axes and assorted charms suspected to be used for criminal fortification.
