Why we established forum of former lawmakers – Yakubu Dogara

Former Speaker of the House of Representatives, Hon Yakubu Dogara, has disclosed the rationale behind the establishment of forum of former legislative members.
Speaking during an interview on ‘Sunday Politics’, a programme on Channels Television monitored by DAILY POST, Dogara said the entire idea is to bring them together, and then see how they could harness the training they have had in the parliament.
According to him: “A lot of people forget that we were members. Some go to even the Ivory Lakes for courses, in Harvard, in Cambridge, in Oxford, serving all the institutions, and once we leave the National Assembly, it’s like the whole asset that this nation has helped in depositing a new ghost road.
“So we thought it was appropriate for us to begin to assemble ourselves doing very well that the future will seek of advancement, of development, of progress is attainable, but only if we take the responsibility and the risk to go for it, deliberately go for it.
“That is the motivation behind the establishment of this forum. And as I understand, this forum is meant to cater for all former legislatures. It would interest you to know the senators were there, members of the House of Representatives were there, state assembly members, former and even counselors from the delegation.
“I know that at least there was one person from the 774 local government of Nigeria. Now we’re talking about whether it was orchestrated or not.”
