Embracing Relationships, Separation, and Divorce With Unbreakable Spirit

True love is a force of extraordinary power—a profound commitment to care deeply, provide unwaveringly, and uplift relentlessly. It goes beyond fleeting emotions; it is the daily choice to meet your partner’s emotional and material needs with devotion, compassion, and strength. When we love like this, we build bonds that can inspire, heal, and transform lives.
My own understanding of this truth was forged in the vibrant streets of Calabar, Cross River State then in Eastern region, Nigeria, in the early 1960s. Every morning, before my father headed out as a mattress dealer, I would greet him for a single coin. Guided by my mother’s wisdom, I shared it with a neighbour’s child who needed it more. Though we had little, these acts of giving filled my young heart with richness. They taught me that true wealth lies in compassion—and that lesson became the cornerstone of a life dedicated to caring for others.
Rise up and love boldly! Pour your time, energy, and resources into those you cherish. Stand loyal without compromising your values. Give with an open heart, for in giving, we unlock our greatest strength and joy.
Yet even the strongest love can face storms—distrust, misalignments, or differences rooted in our pasts. These challenges are not defeats; they are invitations to grow, reflect, and emerge wiser. When love fades, we have the power to choose a path forward with courage and grace.
After 19 years of marriage and the blessing of four incredible children—one daughter and three sons—I chose separation. It stemmed not from betrayal, but from deep differences in our backgrounds and perspectives that we could not fully reconcile. What could have broken me instead ignited a fire within: six years as a single father, raising my children with fierce determination and boundless love.
Yes, the absence of their mother’s daily nurturing left a gap—but it also revealed our family’s unbreakable resilience. My children have grown into strong, compassionate individuals, learning firsthand the power of perseverance and solo devotion. I am immensely proud of them and of the father I have become through this journey.
To every couple facing trials: Fight for your love with patience, communication, and heart! Seek understanding, rebuild trust, and hold on where possible. But if separation calls, embrace it as a new beginning—not an end. Prioritize your children’s emotional growth above all. Both parents bring unique gifts: a father’s provision and security, a mother’s warmth and character-shaping tenderness. Together, you create magic. Apart, you can still co-parent with respect and unity, modeling strength for your children.
