
Suspected herders have reportedly killed two people in a fresh attack on Sham-Ior community, the headquarters of Guma Local Government Area in Benue State.
Residents said the incident occurred in the early hours of Sunday, prompting the community to be deserted as people fled to nearby areas for safety.
A community source said the assailants invaded the area and opened fire, killing two people on the spot, while several others reportedly sustained injuries.
The source added that farmlands and properties were destroyed during the attack, further worsening the humanitarian situation in the area.
As of the time of filing this report, normal activities in Sham-Ior had been disrupted, with residents urging the state and federal governments to strengthen security and protect vulnerable communities from recurring attacks.
When contacted, security operatives confirmed the incident and said efforts were ongoing to restore calm and apprehend the perpetrators.
