The Taraba state government has issued a renewed public warning over the activities of an alleged fraudster going about impersonating a government official to extort money from unsuspecting members of the public.
In a public disclaimer released weekend on behalf of the state government, the authorities cautioned residents against an individual parading himself as “Yeriman Kente,” who according to the statement, falsely claims to be a Special Adviser on Political Matters to the number one citizen of the state, Dr. Agbu Kefas.
“The impostor has been fraudulently soliciting money from members of the public under the pretense of facilitating appointments into the Taraba State Civil Service, particularly the position of Permanent Secretary,” the statement read.
The government categorically denied any association with the individual, stressing that he is not known, recognized, or authorized by the governor or any office of the Taraba State Government.
It further clarified that appointments into the civil service are not obtained through payment of money, influence, or intermediaries.
The statement also disclosed that the suspect allegedly operates with the phone numbers 08134543621 and 08086776306, and runs OPay accounts with account numbers 8134543621 and 7057225275, under the name Yerima Haruna.
Despite several previous warnings issued to the public, the government, as made known in the release, noted that the individual has continued his activities unabated.
Members of the public were advised to disregard, avoid, and immediately report any contact or transaction involving the suspect, the listed phone numbers, or bank accounts to relevant security agencies.
The disclaimer which was signed by the Special Adviser to the Governor on Political Matters and Special Duties,
Josiah Sabo Kente, emphasized that no one has been authorized to use his name, office, or position to solicit funds or defraud the public.
