Former Chelsea player, Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink has said that Arsenal star, Leandro Trossard has surprised him.
The Blues’ legend said he was sure about Trossard at first, but that the Belgian has proved him wrong.
Since coming from Brighton & Hove Albion in the summer of 2023, Trossard, 31, has made almost 150 appearances for the Gunners in different competitions.
He has scored 35 goals and provided 29 assists during that time. He has scored seven goals and provided six assists in 25 matches this season, showing how valuable he is to Mikel Arteta’s team.
Although he did not score or assist in the Gunners’ 3-2 EFL Cup semi-final first-leg win against Chelsea on Wednesday, the Belgian received a lot of praise from Hasselbaink.
Hasselbaink, speaking on Sky Sports via Metro, said, “With all due respect to Leandro Trossard, I’m surprised.
“At the beginning of the season, I thought they needed someone better in that role, but he’s done an amazing job.
“He’s filled that spot really, really well. He’s scored really big goals when it really mattered. He’s surprising me, and the only thing you can say is well done to him.
“I didn’t think he had the strength for it, but he’s keeping it up every week without missing a beat. He’s playing in front of Gabriel Martinelli as well, and I didn’t expect that to happen.”
A key player in Arteta’s midfield, Trossard, played 75 minutes in that game at Stamford before being substituted for Gabriel Martinelli.
