Copa del Rey: ‘Absolute failure’ – Santiago Canizares slams Real Madrid after Albacete defeat

A former Real Madrid goalkeeper, Santiago Canizares, has criticized his old team after they were unexpectedly knocked out of the Copa del Rey.
Real Madrid lost 3-2 to a team from the second division, Albacete, and were eliminated in the Round of 16 on Wednesday.
The loss to Albacete was also the first game for the new head coach, Alvaro Arbeloa, who started his role this week after taking over from Xabi Alonso.
Alonso was sacked by the Spanish team following their 3-2 loss to Barcelona in the Supercopa de España final.
Los Blancos also played without their top player Kylian Mbappe.
In an interview with Radio Cope, former Los Blancos player Santiago Canizares talked about how the team played and why they were eliminated from the Copa del Rey.
He said, as quoted by Tribal Football, “Even though I don’t want to say it, Real Madrid have absolutely failed.
“Arbeloa doesn’t want to use that word. I really agree with what he said, that you have to lose a lot before you can win.
“To achieve success, you have to experience failure many times. Today was a complete failure, and that’s clear.”
The former goalkeeper slammed the management, saying, “The management has been really poor all week.
“In football, even when things are done properly, things can still go wrong. If you don’t do them right, there’s a higher risk that problems might happen.”
After losing in the final of the Supercopa and being knocked out of the Copa Del Rey, Los Blancos will now focus on winning LaLiga and the UEFA Champions League.
They are currently in second place in the league, only four points behind Barcelona.
