Turkey: Nigeria’s Gift Orban overtakes Victor Osimhen in Super Lig Golden Boot race

Nigerian forward, Gift Orban, has moved ahead of compatriot Victor Osimhen in the Turkish Super Lig Golden Boot standings after finding the net in Amedspor’s thrilling 4-3 loss to Galatasaray.
Orban, who joined Amedspor on loan during the summer transfer window, scored in the second half after a relatively quiet first-half performance.
The striker, formerly of Lyon, rose brilliantly to head home from close range after substitute Furkan Soyalp delivered an inviting cross that went beyond Galatasaray goalkeeper Ugurcan Cakir.
His latest effort took his league statistics to 10 goals and five assists in 11 appearances since the campaign began in August, further underlining his impressive form in Turkey.
The goal also saw Orban overtake Osimhen in the league’s scoring charts, with the Galatasaray forward currently sidelined following knee surgery.
Osimhen picked up the injury during Galatasaray’s UEFA Champions League victory over German Bundesliga side Stuttgart. Before his setback, the former Napoli striker had made an impressive contribution, recording nine goals and three assists in eight league matches.
Meanwhile, another Nigerian, Yira Sor, also got on the scoresheet for Amedspor after coming off the bench for Senegalese forward Mbaye Diagne.
Sor netted his side’s third goal late in the encounter, showing composure inside the penalty area to guide the ball into the bottom corner after it fell kindly into his path.
Despite Amedspor’s defeat, the contributions from Orban and Sor provided a positive highlight for Nigerian football fans, while Orban’s latest strike strengthened his position in the Turkish Super Lig scoring race.
