The Vigilante Group of Nigeria, VGN, Taraba State command has intercepted a large consignment of illicit drugs suspected to be Indian hemp (cannabis) in Jalingo, the state capital.
The interception which took place during the weekend, according to the leadership of the VGN, followed credible intelligence on the movement of illegal drugs within the state.
“Acting on the information, operatives launched a strategic operation that led to the successful stoppage of the consignment before it could be distributed”, the State Commander Bello Arabi, said.
The commandant who announced that, one suspect was arrested in connection with the seizure, said the suspect and the recovered substances have since been handed over to the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, NDLEA for further investigation and possible prosecution.
Commending the operation, Arabi, applauded the dedication and courage of the officers involved, describing the seizure as a significant boost to efforts aimed at tackling insecurity in the state.
He noted that drug abuse remains a major contributor to criminal activities, stressing that removing illicit substances from circulation helps to curb crime.
He urged VGN personnel across the state to remain vigilant and intensify efforts against drug-related offences.
The commander also reaffirmed the group’s commitment to sustained collaboration with formal security agencies, particularly the NDLEA, to ensure the safety and well-being of residents.
