Transfer: Chelsea to sign Nigeria’s Ahanor

Chelsea are advancing in club-to-club talks with Atalanta for defender Honest Ahanor.
According to Fabrizio Romano, this comes after Ahanor agreed personal terms with the Blues.
Ahanor, who was born in Italy to Nigerian parents, is viewed by Chelsea as a player for the future.
He is primarily a left-footed centre-back but can also play at left-back, giving Chelsea another versatile defensive prospect.
Chelsea have already completed significant business with Atalanta this summer, having signed Marco Palestra from the Serie A side.

Lobi Stars have intensified preparations for the President Federation Cup Round of 64 clash against Kogi United.

The Makurdi-based club thrashed non-league side St. Mark’s FC 6-0 in a warm-up match at the McCarthy Stadium on Sunday.

The game was their first after the completion of the 2025-26 Nigeria National League, NNL, season.

Lobi Stars will square up with Kogi United in Abuja on Wednesday.

They are determined to make up for the top-flight promotion setback with an impressive run in the cup competition.

Lobi Stars crashed out in the Round of 32 in 2025.

They last won the competition in 2003 when Lobi Stars defeated the defunct Sharks FC 2-0 in the final.

Former France international, Bacary Sagna, has defended Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta over his decision to start Kepa Arrizabalaga ahead of David Raya during the Gunners’ Carabao Cup final defeat to Manchester City on Sunday.

Arteta received criticism for starting Kepa over Raya as the former Chelsea goalkeeper made an error during the encounter that resulted in a goal.

Two goals from Nico O’Reilly ensured Pep Guardiola’s men defeated Arteta’s side at Wembley.

Speaking to Covers, as quoted by Sportskeeda, Sagna said, “Mikel Arteta did not make a mistake by starting Kepa over Raya in goal.

“Kepa’s mistake cost Arsenal a goal, but it was not the only reason why they lost the game.

“Arsenal started to sit back in the second half, and they invited pressure from Manchester City.”

Football pundit, Mamadou Gaye has urged South African club Kaizer Chiefs to appoint former Nigeria manager Sunday Oliseh as their next coach.

Kaizer Chiefs have been without a substantive coach since last October after they parted ways with Nasreddine Nabi.

The Glamour Boys eventually announced that coaches Khalil Ben Youssef and Cedric Kaze will lead the team on an interim basis for the remainder of the 2025-2026 season.

Speaking on SuperSport’s Soccer Africa, Gaye said: “A professional club like Kaizer Chiefs, I expect them to have a permanent coach.

“All the top clubs in the world can’t go eight months or one year with a caretaker coach.

“Let them take Sunday Oliseh. I’m just throwing out a name; there are many out there.”

Oliseh is currently a free agent, having managed clubs like Verviétois, Fortuna Sittard and SV 19 Straelen in the past.
