Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy will meet British Prime Minister Keir Starmer on Saturday.

The visit is said to be ahead of a wider summit of European leaders in London on Sunday to discuss a peace plan for Ukraine.

A Starmer’s office spokesman said the Prime Minister and President Zelenskiy will be meeting in Downing Street this afternoon.

The meeting comes amid an extraordinary public spat between Zelenskiy and Donald Trump at the White House over the war with Russia, with the US president threatening to withdraw support for Ukraine.

Zelenskiy had seen the meeting in the Oval Office as an opportunity to convince the United States not to side with Russian President Vladimir Putin, who ordered the invasion of Ukraine three years ago.

It could be recalled that Starmer spoke to both Trump and Zelenskiy on Friday and expressed his unwavering support for Ukraine, echoing similar statements of backing for Zelenskiy from other European leaders.

Russia’s Foreign Ministry has said the trip of President Volodymyr Zelenskiy of Ukraine to Washington on Friday was a political and diplomatic failure, stating that he was obsessed with continuing to wage war.

DAILY POST reports that Zelenskiy and US President Donald Trump clashed at a White House meeting on Friday, plunging ties between Kyiv and the United States, its main military backer to a new low.

“The visit … to Washington on February 28 is a complete political and diplomatic failure by the Kyiv regime,” Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said in a written statement published on Saturday on the ministry’s website.

According to her, Zelenskiy’s behaviour at the White House as outrageously boorish, adding that the Ukrainian president was an unabashed cynic, whose main goal was to keep power.

“For the sake of this, he has destroyed the opposition, built a totalitarian state and ruthlessly sends millions of citizens to their deaths,” Zakharova added.

Meanwhile, Kyiv has previously dismissed such accusations.

Zelenskiy had seen the meeting as an opportunity to convince the US not to side with Russian President Vladimir Putin and openly challenged Trump over his softer approach towards the Russian leader.

Akpabio vs Natasha: Make sure nothing is done to rubbish Nigerian Senate – Saraki calls for transparent resolution

Former Nigerian Senate President, Bukola Saraki, has reacted to the ongoing sexual harassment allegation against Godswill Akpabio, by the senator representing Kogi Central, Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan.

DAILY POST reports that Natasha, on February 20 2025, had a face-off with the president of the 10th Senate, during the plenary, after discovering that her seat had been changed without her consent.

Reacting to the incident, the Senate unanimously voted to refer Natasha to the Committee on Ethics, Privileges, and Public Petitions, for disciplinary review.

Reacting to the development in an interview with Arise Television on Friday, she accused Akpabio of sexual harassment.

The accusations have generated diverse reactions on social media.

However, reacting to the incident, Saraki, in a statement made available to DAILY POST on Saturday, advised that “constitution, laws of the country, rules of the Senate as well as parliamentary conventions and practices should be adhered to in resolving the issue”.

While calling for transparency in the resolution process, Saraki warned those involved “to be sure that nothing is done to rubbish the institution.”

Expressing his sadness, he wrote “I have watched from afar the recent development in the Senate between the Senate President, Godswill Akpabio, and Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan.

“It is a development that has made me sad because of its overall negative effect on the integrity, sanctity, image, and public perception of the institution. I

“I believe that everyone who has had anything to do with the National Assembly, particularly as a leader, member, and worker should always jealously protect these values which make the institution, the numero uno, among the three arms of government.

“It is for these reasons that I believe that the two parties in this dispute and their supporters in and out of chamber should be mindful of the impact of their actions, inactions, reactions, claims, and counter-claims to be sure that nothing is done to rubbish the institution.

“The constitution, laws of the country, rules of the Senate as well as parliamentary conventions and practices should be adhered to in resolving the issue.”

Some sacked employees of the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) were given 15 minutes to pack up and leave the office.

CNN reported on Friday that employees were seen outside the office with their belongings.

“It has been horrible; there was little to no communication with us. We are being treated terribly,” an employee told CNN anonymously.

This follows the massive layoff of staff by USAID amid efforts by President Donald Trump to cut government spending.

Recently, the US government announced a plan to cut foreign aid contracts valued at $5 billion.

“At the conclusion of a process led by USAID leadership, including tranches personally reviewed by Secretary of State Marco Rubio, nearly 5,800 awards with $54 billion in value remaining were identified for elimination as part of the America First agenda—a 92 percent reduction,” the US State Department said in a statement.

DAILY POST recalls that since Trump’s inauguration, the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) has doubled down on its cost-cutting stance.
