President Donald Trump of the United States has revoked the security detail for Mark T. Esper, a former defence secretary.
Esper is among several officials who are facing threats from Iran due to the actions they took on behalf of Trump during his first term.
Upon assuming office as president, Trump began withdrawing the security details from nearly half a dozen people who had served in his first term.
US intelligence claimed that Iran had sought revenge against American officials involved in the drone strike that killed Iran’s General Qassim Soleimani in early January 2020.
Esper was protected by federal officials due to ongoing threats from Iran.
Four other officials from Trump’s first administration facing Iranian threats also had their details pulled.
The others are: John R. Bolton, Trump’s third national security adviser; Mike Pompeo, the former secretary of state; Brian Hook, one of Pompeo’s top aides and a specialist on Iran; and retired Gen. Mark A. Milley, whom Trump picked to be chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff.
Those security details were provided by the Biden administration based on assessments from the intelligence community that the threats from Iran were ongoing and credible.
The Biden administration had briefed the incoming Trump administration about the threats.
Trump also pulled protection from Dr. Anthony S. Fauci, the infectious diseases expert who had advised the White House on its response to the coronavirus pandemic.

Bondi’s nomination had earned praise from both Republicans and some Democrats for her composure and her ability to navigate around political lines.
Over 110 former senior Justice Department officials, including former attorneys general and dozens of Democratic and Republican state attorneys general, praised her experience and work across party and state lines.
During her confirmation, the former Florida prosecutor and state attorney general vowed to head up a Justice Department free from political influence or weaponisation.

By doing this, Trump would be honouring one of the pledges he made before returning for his second term in office with a radical right-wing agenda.
According to the White House on Wednesday, via its daily guidance, the President would sign a “No Men in Women’s Sports Executive Order” in a ceremony at 3:00 pm (2000 GMT).
“Today, President Trump will deliver on his promise to PROTECT WOMEN’S SPORTS!” Deputy Press Secretary Anna Kelly said on X.
Kelly said the order would “end the dangerous and unfair participation of men in women’s sports.”
During his campaign for a second term, Trump made it clear that there would be no men in women’s sports.
DAILY POST reports that the newly sworn-in American leader has repeatedly targeted gender non-conforming people in his blitz of executive orders.
He had signed an order to rid the military of what he called “transgender ideology” and effectively ban transgender troops.
He also issued an order to restrict gender transition procedures for people under age 19.
His latest executive order comes after the Republican-led House of Representatives in January passed a bill severely restricting transgender athletes from participating in girls’ and women’s sports.
