Zamfara APC condemns attack on chieftain

The Zamfara State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has condemned the attack on one of its prominent chieftains, Hon. Sani Abdullahi Shinkafi, during a wedding fatiha in Gusau on Friday.

In a statement issued by the APC’s Publicity Secretary, Yusuf Idris Gusau, the party expressed shock and disappointment over the incident, which occurred at the Rabi’a Jum’at Mosque, where Hon. Shinkafi had attended the wedding of Alhaji Siddi Daki Takwas’ children.

Recall that Shinkafi at his residence in Gusau on Saturday night, disclosed that some individuals had attempted to attack him during a wedding ceremony he attended at a mosque in Gusau last Friday over his remarks about notorious bandits’ leader, Bello Turji.

The APC statement read, “We noticed with shock how the horrific incident unfolded as some youths, joined by other irate individuals, displayed such bad manners. This behavior is highly uncharacteristic of our otherwise well-behaved party members.”

The APC stressed that while the youths may have had personal grievances, such actions were unacceptable.

“Our party has well-coordinated channels for addressing any issues or grievances that members might have. The correct course of action would have been to use these channels rather than resorting to violence.”

Reaffirming its commitment to protecting its members, the party said, “As a responsible party, we will always take necessary measures to protect our members, big or small. We want to reassure all our loyal members, especially our leaders, that we will do everything in our power to ensure their safety and dignity.”

The APC also emphasized that their reconciliation initiative, which encourages peaceful resolution of conflicts, is inclusive of not just their own members but also those from opposition parties.

“We stress that deviant behavior, especially against members of other political parties, is completely unacceptable,” the statement continued.

The party called on all youths to desist from such acts and urged them to present any grievances through the appropriate channels. “We urge our youth to refrain from such actions and to address any issues through the proper party procedures.”

The APC vowed to take strong action against those responsible for the attack.
