A 30-year-old farmer has been killed and another injured following an attack by suspected herders in Bade Local Government Area of Yobe State.
According to Zagazola Makama, the incident occurred at about 5 pm on February 11, 2026, in Azbak Village, sources from the security agencies and the community confirmed.
The victims, identified as Abdulrahaman Audu and Ya’u Umaru, were said to be working on their tomato farms when two unidentified herders grazing sheep allegedly entered the farmland.
Sources said the farmers confronted the herders over the alleged trespass, leading to a confrontation that turned violent. The attackers reportedly used cutlasses to inflict serious injuries on the two men.
The victims were rushed to the Specialist Hospital in Gashua for medical attention. Audu was pronounced dead on arrival, while Umaru is receiving treatment and is reported to be responding.
The body of the deceased has been released to his family for burial in line with Islamic rites.
The Yobe State Police Command confirmed the incident and said efforts are ongoing to identify and arrest the suspects, who fled the scene after the attack.
The latest incident highlights recurring clashes between farmers and herders in parts of the state, often linked to disputes over grazing and farmland encroachment.
