The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has announced plans to rehabilitate 73 Government Secondary Schools across Abuja.

The initiative is part of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, aimed at improving education and public infrastructure.

Wike made this known on Tuesday while launching the reconstruction of the 15-kilometre Old Keffi Road, which stretches from Kado Village to Dei-Dei. He said both the school and road projects reflect President Tinubu’s determination to fulfill his promises to Nigerians.

“Out of 103 Government Secondary Schools in the FCT, 73 are currently under rehabilitation, and 33 more projects will soon begin,” Wike explained. “This government is working hard to make life better for Nigerians, especially the people of Abuja.”

According to the Minister, the Old Keffi Road project is one of several key projects approved by President Tinubu to reduce traffic, improve connectivity, and boost economic activities in the FCT.

He recalled that one of the first emergency projects approved by the President in 2023 was the rehabilitation of Saburi 1 and Saburi 2 roads, adding that the current project fulfills the promise made during that commissioning.

“When we opened the Saburi Road, I said it would only be complete if the Old Keffi Road was also fixed. Today, we are here to make that promise a reality,” Wike said.

He added that Lubrik Construction Company, which handled the Saburi Road project, was again selected for the Old Keffi Road due to the quality of its previous work and technical expertise.

Wike also praised the Chairman of the Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC), Hon. Christopher Zakka Maikalangu, for being a “true representative” of his people and urged residents to continue supporting him.

The Minister further appealed to residents to support the Tinubu administration and avoid being misled by politicians who failed in the past.

“We gave them chances before and they disappointed us. If we give them another, they will destroy everything,” he warned.

Wike revealed that 27 more project flag-offs are scheduled across Abuja, describing it as an unprecedented achievement and proof of the President’s commitment to development. He directed the construction company to hire local workers from nearby communities to ensure they benefit from the project.

In her remarks, the Minister of State for the FCT, Dr. Mariya Mahmoud, thanked President Tinubu for supporting projects that directly impact citizens. She described the Old Keffi Road as a vital route that connects communities, reduces travel time, and promotes economic growth.

She also commended Wike for his focused leadership, saying the project reflects the administration’s goal of improving connectivity and inclusive development across the FCT.
